How to Sleep Wonderfully Well Every Evening

March 6, 2020

Sleep is a fundamental part of your development and recovery every single day. Even if you think you don’t need very much sleep to function, you might not be getting enough much needed shut eye each evening. Whether you’re trying to get over an illness or you just want to get a better night’s sleep, it is never a bad idea to adjust your routine. If you have been struggling with your sleep pattern in the recent months, here are just some of the ways you can guarantee a good night’s sleep every single evening.

Make Sure Your Bed in Comfortable
This may sound really obvious, but if your bed isn’t comfortable you aren’t going to be able to sleep well. What’s comfortable to you, might not necessarily be comfortable to someone else, so you need to try and test a few different options to make sure. You may find that choosing a weighted blanket helps reduce your anxiety at bedtime or silk pillowcases are much more comfortable for you. Try out a number of different options and you will soon discover what works for you.

Turn off Electronic Devices
If you’re scrolling on social media or checking emails right before you go to sleep your mind is going to be full of thoughts. As well as being super stimulated mentally, the blue light on your devices also interrupts the relaxant hormones in your body. The best advice would be to keep your phone outside of your room and switch it off at least an hour before you go to bed.

Start a Wind Down Routine
If you struggle to get to sleep every night, you need to start up a bedtime routine that alters your way of thinking. Being able to wind down calmly every single night will give you a higher chance of uninterrupted sleep through the evening. Whether you have a warm bubble bath, read your favourite book or listen to a podcast, there are so many ways that you can relax and wind down in the evenings so that you sleep soundly each night.

Meditate
When you meditate before you go to sleep, it allows your brain to switch off completely. If you run your own business or have a stressful job, you may struggle to relax when you’re meant to be sleeping. Invest in a guided meditation app and use this to soothe yourself before bed. Many people who try this often find that they fall asleep long before the meditation even gets to the end. Try a few different types and stick with the one that works for you.

As soon as you start implementing these ideas into your evening routine, you will feel so much better about your sleep pattern. Getting a good night’s sleep doesn’t need to be stressful, overwhelming or complicated. Simply find the routines and regimes that work for you and you will be able to sleep peacefully every time your head hits the pillow.
