Covid Numbers Are Rising - Here's How To Prepare For Spring

March 29, 2022

While it’s true that the chaos of the news in recent months and weeks has almost led many of us to forget about Covid-19 or its associated impacts, the pandemic is far from over. Many countries now state that this is something we need to live with, as vaccination programs become cyclical and medicines like anti-viral pills are being pushed by certain countries, including the current Biden administration.

Now that spring is on its way and the warmer weather inspires more socialization, and in many countries, societal restrictions have been totally uncoupled, it’s worth considering the best ways to prepare for Spring and the degree to which this might be possible in your own life.

This way, we can help avoid any unnecessary exposure or at least prepare ourselves should we catch the virus. While catching the virus may not be entirely preventable forever, with a little diligence and stocking up on your at home Covid test units, you’ll no doubt find a worthwhile compromise:

Consider Events Worth Attending

It can be worthwhile to attend a fun event from time to time, but it might be that taking a backseat depending on what numbers are like in your region is cautious and worthwhile. For instance, you might decide to opt for a side box at the theatre, or you might attend mostly outdoor events rather than large conventions with thousands of people. This is totally up to you of course, and your level of comfort depending on your health and additional needs.

Teach Your Children How To Be Responsible

It’s good to make sure our children are reminded how to behave in a responsible manner, such as washing their hands regularly, wearing a mask if asked to and keeping them on hand, not being in such close proximity with others, and if they feel uncomfortable, leaving a situation if necessary. Keeping them informed regarding how you plan to handle and prepare for the chance of exposure can help them follow suit. Depending on their age, a secondary or even booster vaccination may be available to them, and so this could be a good way to protect them in the mid term.

Exercise & Keep Vitamin D Levels Up

It’s good to exercise of course, but being in good shape and with a trained cardiovascular system can truly help you shake off the illness should you catch it. Keeping up your vitamin D levels at an appropriate level for you (in most cases 4,000 - 6,000 IU’s supplemented a day can be worthwhile - but be sure to speak to your doctor before doing that), can also help your immune system greatly, and has been proven to be a vital boost in the fight against Covid. If you can balance those aims, you’ll be in the best shape going forward.

With this advice, we believe you’ll prepare for Spring in the best possible manner, despite Covid case numbers rising. It just takes a little common sense and the willingness to apply precautions you deem relevant.

10 MORE Things to Pray for Yourself as a (Future) Wife

March 27, 2022

Picture found on Internet, Words Added by Caravan Sonnet
I have mentioned many times here on the blog that I pray for my future husband on a regular basis. I try to spend time each day praying for him, knowing that when I am married to him that I will want to make prayer a regular part of my life with my husband and for my husband. One of the things that I get asked repeatedly is what exactly I pray for my future husband so I have shared in the past a post on 10 Things to Pray for Your (Future) Husband which can be found HERE. I also have shared 10 More Things to Pray for Your Future Husband which can be found HERE and 10 Things I Pray for Myself as a (Future) Wife which can be found HERE.

Today I wanted to share 10 more things that you can pray for yourself as a (future) wife. If you are married I highly encourage you to pray for your husband and if you are single or engaged, I encourage you to start praying for your future husband starting now!

(One) I pray that I would have a hunger for God's word, a passion to know Christ above anything and anyone else.

(Two) I pray that I would have big and daring dreams to change the world for Christ. I pray that I will not be content to just accept the world the way that it is, but have a passion for a calling that is uniquely mine that I can join together with my future husband in.

(Three) I pray that I would dream big dreams and attempt big things for God, but also have the unique understanding on how to love the people that are placed in front of me. That I would have a genuine understanding of Mother Theresa saying, "Want to change the world? Go home and love your family".

(Four) I pray that I would be filled with joy. I pray that I would know the love of Christ so intimately and that I  would be filled with strength and dignity so that I can laugh at the days to come (Proverbs 31:25) because my ultimate source of peace is found solely in God.

(Five) I pray that I would be delivered from any trials that I am currently going through. I pray that the Lord would write a redemptive story out of any circumstance that I am going through.

(Six) I pray that I would have great discernment that comes from knowing Jesus Christ. I pray that I would consult God before anything and anyone else and pray for wisdom for each and every decision that I am facing whether it be small or big.

(Seven) I pray that even now the Lord is developing me to be an excellent mother to our future children. I pray that I would have a heart for raising up men and women who love the Lord more than anything else, that I would develop patience and laughter, and that I would have a heart for the orphan.

(Eight) I pray that I would be protected... protected physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

(Nine) I pray that even now the Lord would be preparing my heart for him alone. That our hearts would be joined together by God, the tapestry for this being woven right now as we pray and wait for each other.

(Ten) I pray that I would be a woman of prayer. I pray that this will be a hallmark and benchmark of my life, understanding the importance and necessity of prayer.

Are there any specific prayers that you pray for your future spouse? I would love to hear what things you pray for!

(PS- If you are looking for encouragement in the single season of life you can find all of the posts that I have written on the topic of singleness HERE!)

How to Protect Your Home's Roof Better

March 25, 2022

Your home’s roof is one of its most important components  when it comes to security and safety. In order to protect your home, you need to be protecting its roof. If you’re not sure what  that looks like or what you can do to protect your roof better going forward, you’re in the right place. You can find out everything you need to know about protecting your roof properly below, so read on and find out more.

Keep Branches Under Control

Keeping branches from nearby trees away from the roof is one of the most important things you can do to protect your home. In a storm, those branches will be at risk of breaking and the last thing you want is for them to fall on your roof and cause costly damage. So make sure that you keep those branches under control and remove trees if necessary.

Address Minor Leaks Early

If there’s a minor leak coming from the roof, it can be pretty easy to ignore for a while. It might not seem like a big deal but those little leaks can very easily become a lot more when they go ignored. That’s why it’s so important to address them as quickly as you possibly can if you don't want things to get far worse for the roof and it’s general condition. Don’t ignore any such problems.

Clear Off Any Snow

When there’s snowfall in the winter, you’ll want to make sure that you’re not letting it weigh down on your roof more than it has to. You can’t always clear all of it off. But the parts that you can reach in a safe manner should be removed with a shovel or something similar. That way, there’ll be less downward pressure on your roof that it has to deal with.

Have the Gutters Cleaned Regularly

When you allow the gutters next to your roof to become clogged up and filled with debris, it makes overflowing and water issues more likely. That’s not  what you want, and it’s why it's so important to have them cleaned regularly. Doing so will identify gutter blockages in a timely manner and ensure they can be dealt with so they never impact your walls or roof.

Carry Out Maintenance

There are certain kinds of maintenance that you should always be sure to carry out on a regular basis, to ensure that your roof does not suffer some kind of collapse. That is something that might be easier than you think to achieve, so it’s worth looking into at least. There are all kinds of maintenance that you might consider depending on the type of roof, such as metal roof maintenance.

Get Regular Roof Inspections

Getting regular roof inspections carried out is a good idea, especially if you don’t know much about what to look for when it comes to roof issues. A professional will be able to see what’s wrong and spot problems before they start causing major issues for your home. It’s something that you can do a couple of times a year.

Protecting your home’s roof is a challenge and one that you definitely need to rise to. If you take its integrity and safety for granted, you’ll probably end up regretting it later and that’s not what you want. So make sure you employ the tips and ideas above and keep your roof in the best shape possible going forward.

blue ridge falls // #adk50falls challenge // north hudson, new york

March 22, 2022

 caravan sonnet

Happy Tuesday friends! I hope that you are having a wonderful week!

Today I am excited to share with y'all a bit more about the #ADK50falls challenge and specifically about the Blue Ridge Falls, a waterfall that we recently visited.

If you are doing the challenge, coming from the north, and wanting to see a few of the same falls in the same area then I would highly suggest planning to see both Split Rock Falls (you can read about it HERE)and Rice's Falls (you can read about it HERE) at the same time as they were all located somewhat close together. If you aren't familiar with the #ADK50falls challenge, you can read about the places that I have been going as part of the challenge HERE (I started in 2019) or read about the entire challenge HERE.

Simply put there are 50 waterfalls that you hike and visit (5 require proof with photo that you were there) to complete the challenge. For those of you who love hiking and being outdoors this can show you unique parts of the Adirondacks that you may have never discovered. I definitely have been feeling that with the waterfalls that we have visited and explored the last several weeks and look forward to sharing more!

If you would like to know just basic facts about the falls please just scroll down to the bottom of the post where I will be sharing basic information to help those who want to know more specifics about each of the falls in the challenge.

Blue Ridge Falls, located in North Hudson, New York, is a beautiful 20 foot waterfall located in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains that is made up of several small drops and ledges. Formed on the Branch, fed partly by Elk Lake, the falls are incredibly beautiful and are visible from the road with a pull-off with parking provided.

After parking, I went and explored around the top of the falls. If you park and walk up the road there is a dirt road that you will see. This is not for driving, but you can walk the very short distance and you will come out above the falls. The area splits and you will have the option to follow the path down to the falls if you would like, which I did. It was a bit muddy (because of the Spring time so be careful if you go during this time of the year), but easy to get to the falls and see them from that angle to.

It was a beautiful and easy hike (less than a 1/2 of a mile) to get down to the bottom and there was no one else around at this time of the year so we had the place to ourselves.

It was absolutely beautiful! It was definitely one of my favorite waterfalls that I have visited in the challenge!

If you are interested in reading more about each of the waterfalls - I recommend reading Adirondack Fifty Falls (click HERE to purchase) which lays out all of the falls in a concise and easy manner. It also groups the falls in the challenge by area so that you do not have to do that research!

When I was extremely sick I used to grieve not being able to be outside in nature as much as I wanted to be and if this is where you are at due to health reasons I hope that the information I provide about each of the falls in this challenge will encourage you to explore as you are able.
.
......BLUE RIDGE FALLS INFORMATION......

LOCATION:
North Hudson
(approx. 35 minutes north of Lake George // 1 hour southeast of Lake Placid)

TYPE OF FALLS:
20 foot fall + additional drops and ledges

KEY LANDMARKS:
Several High Peaks trails and Elk Lake Lodge which is a short distance from the falls

COST:
Free

PARKING:
Roadside parking where you could see the falls without getting out of the car.

CROWDED?:
No. Rumor is that during the summer it can get crowded with locals who are wanting to wade in the bottom of the falls, but during the late winter/early Spring when we went there was no one.

DISTANCE TO FALLS FROM PARKING AREA:
None to see from road or a short, steep hike if you want to go down to the falls.

DISABILITY FRIENDY?:
Absolutely Yes. You could even see the falls from the car if you did not want to get out. If you are just getting into hiking the trail splits into two different ways where you could take a higher trail to see more or a lower, steeper trail which will take you directly to the falls. If you are able to walk short distances then this could be a "yes" from the top. To get to the bottom and back up may be difficult depending on your condition.

Thank you so much for reading today friends! Please let me know if you have any questions about the challenge or the Blue Ridge Falls! I am happy to answer and can't wait to hear about your waterfall adventures! And again, if you would like to read about other #adk50falls that I have written about on the blog click HERE or click on the links below:

Plans You Should Be Making Ahead Of The Move

Before you start thinking about what you’re going to need for that new home, make sure that you take the time to look at the moving process, first. If you want to keep things as low stress as possible, then here are the tips that you should keep in mind.

Caravan Sonnet

Photo - CC0 License

A supply run is crucial

You’re going to need more than a few supplies to make sure that you’re able to pack and move everything. This includes boxes to keep the items, padding and blankets for security, and tape to hold it together. You might be able to get some of them for free, such as boxes from local stores. You might be able to find even more through sharing networks like Freecycle, if you’re willing to wait for them to appear.

Pack in advance

The longer you leave it to start packing, the more that you will have to scramble to get things ready in time. Start preparing boxes around the home ASAP, packing things by the room. Decide on the things you’re not going to need right now and pack them, leaving behind the things that you’re much more likely to leave until you’re finally able to put away your more everyday items.

What to do with items you’re not bringing

Downsizing your move can make it much easier to manage and more affordable, to boot. However, you need to think about what you do with the items that you’re not bringing. You can sell some and donate others, but what about items that you don’t necessarily want to get rid of but don’t have a place in your new home? Self-storage solutions like SMARTBOX Solutions, Inc. might be the key. You can keep hold of more of your items until you decide on their final place.

Hire your moving company in advance

The sooner that you get to know what items you’re bringing, the sooner you can hire your moving company. They’re going to need to know, roughly, how much that you’re bringing with you. Wait too long to hire a moving team and you can find their availability dwindling, to the point that you might even have to do it yourself or at least pay over what you should to make use of them.

Get your boxes organized

You should be thinking about what you can do to make it easier to unpack on the other side of things, as well. To that end, you should be organizing your boxes, using labels like those shown at Tag-A-Room. With colored labels, you can make it easy to see where they have to go at a glance. You can also mark boxes that have fragile items in them so that you and your moving team handle them a little more gently.

With the tips above, you can do a lot to make your move a lot less demanding. Moving day is always going to be somewhat stressful. It’s a big deal, after all. But taking some of the work out of it can make things much more manageable.

Ideas To Help You Save More Money

Caravan Sonnet

Unsplash Image

When you have your next vacation coming up or want to buy some lovely new furniture for your home, sometimes you need to be a little money savvy to help make your money last a little longer. So if you are in need of some inspiration on how to save some much needed dollars, then here are some ideas to get you going.

Evaluate Your Monthly Expenses

If you have quite a few direct debits going out of your account each month then maybe it is best to rethink whether you need that expensive monthly phone bill or need three different online streaming services at the same time. It’s best to have a look at your monthly expenses and see if there are any temporary changes you can make which will save you some cash if you need it for something important coming up. You can always revert back to it if you want to continue with the monthly subscription, but at least the option is there.

Switch To a Better Credit Card

If you need to make some purchases on your credit card you want to ensure that you have one with a good interest rate. The best way to do this is to compare credit online to see if the card you are currently using is indeed the best one for your particular needs. If you can find a better one then this will reduce the high interest payments you have if you do not repay the money back in time, which will save you some much needed dollars.

Plan Your Meals For The Week

To avoid shopping excessively when you next go to the grocery store, then you could plan what you would like to cook for the week. You can then write a list of all the key ingredients you need which will help you to keep focused when you are walking around the store and prevent you from buying random items that can quickly build up your food bill. It will also help you to plan your meals so that you can be mindful of what you are eating and make healthier choices too.

Top Up Your Savings Regularly

If you can regularly top up your savings pot you will find that you will build this up nicely. This will then allow you to dip into your savings when you need it. So make sure you have a savings account with a good interest rate so that you are getting value for money when you are putting your hard earned cash aside. It will then allow you to buy the things that you require as and when you need them.

With a few small tweaks to your everyday life there is no reason why you cannot build up your savings in no time to help you buy what you need.

5 Easy Steps to Make Your Home Pet-Friendly

March 21, 2022

Pets can bring a lot of joy and meaning to our lives, there’s just something so rewarding about pet ownership. However, they can also be a source of stress. If you have pets at home, it is important to make your home pet-friendly so that they are not stressed out and can enjoy their time with you.

This isn’t only to help them out with feeling less stressed but having a pet-friendly home that perfectly accommodates your fur baby will also help you out as well. You’ll feel less stressed, your home can stay clean, and there’s less of a chance of damage. So how can you create a pet-friendly home?

Caravan Sonnet

Step 1. Talk to Your Vet About Ways to Make a Pet-Friendly Home

It is important to know that there are certain things you can do to make your home pet friendly. These include making sure that your pet has enough space, keeping the temperature comfortable, and keeping the house clean. Since the pet is a part of the family, it’s better than to just do a bunch of research online. Have a talk with your vet. They know about the living habits of most species and they’ll definitely know about making your pet feel right at home.

Step 2. Understand the Health and Safety Concerns of Pets in the Home

While your vet can raise some awareness for you, only you know your home. Is there anything in your home that could potentially be considered dangerous for your pet? Loose cords? Anything sharp? Think about this thoroughly. While the actual home itself has great importance, don’t forget to put emphasis on the environment. This includes how loud it is at home. What you’re feeding your furry friend such as walmart pet food, how much attention they get from their owners, and how they’re putting out their energy.

Step 3. Find Ways to Reduce Pet Stress in Your Home without Imposing on the Environment

Any possibility that something is stressing out your pet? This can include certain items, the layout, and even the volume of the home. If your pet is feeling stressed, try to take a good look at your home to see what can be changed.

Step 4. Create a Safe and Fun Space for Pets with Activities for Them to Do

Pets can be very active and playful creatures. They can also be a source of stress for their owners. This is why it is important to provide them with safe activities for them to do to create a fun and safe space for them. Ideas include:

- Providing lots of toys and food bowl options so they have something new every day

- Providing different types of beds so they have options on where they want to sleep

- Providing some type of activity that will help train them

Humans like to have options on what’s going to make them feel the most comfortable, and the very same can be said about pets too.

Step 5. Choose Common Household Treatments you Want All Pets to Have Access To

Pets are a part of our lives and they deserve to be taken care of. Here are some household treatments that I think all pets should have access to. All dogs and cats should have access to a doggy door so they can roam around the house freely. It helps them feel less confined and more comfortable. All cats should have access to litter boxes. But these should extend further than just the basic things a cat and a dog need.
