Here are some of my favorite things from this past week! First of all....

3. Day in Montreal
On Wednesday I had taken the day off and mom and I went up to Montreal for the day. We had such a lovely day (and a bit of an adventure!) but it is always so fun to travel to Montreal for a little bit. This is one of my favorite things about living where we do- the ability to step into another country and culture so easily. I am constantly amazed by the kindness of our Canadian neighbors, the way that they go out of their way to communicate in English with those of us that are not experts in French and just the loveliness of having a taste of Canada so easily to access. I need to write up a post on some of my favorite places and things to do soon!

6. Keep Moving Book
I shared this in my What's Up Wednesday post (click HERE to read), but I bought this book for my sweet mama and she absolutely loves it! If you are looking for a book for your parents this one is so encouraging, real, and makes my mom laugh out loud and encourage her at this stage of life. Full of life and encouragement- I definitely recommend it y'all!

7. FLASHBACK FRIDAY
With Caravan Sonnet turning eleven years old this year I love sharing on Fridays some of the older but most popular posts on the blog! One of the things that Caravan Sonnet developed into was a a resource for those looking for trip itineraries around the United States and World.

With heading back to Georgia in July for a wedding, I immediately am remembering about my time living there. My time in Georgia was a chapter that will always remain incredibly precious to me. I arrived in Georgia "starting over" and left with a knowledge that something was seriously wrong with my health. I had no idea of course how sick I was or what the next 11 years would bring, but as I look back on my time here as I am visiting for a couple of days I am humbly reminded of the treasure and love and laughter of the three years in Georgia. Fellowship family, you remain incredibly close to my heart always. I love y'all and thank you for loving me so well too.

I shared a reel last Spring that holds tons of precious memories from that time. You can watch it HERE!

I hope that you have a wonderful Friday friends! Thank you for making this such an incredible space to come to and connect with every single day. I am so blessed!!

9 surprising and amazing health benefits of strawberries

June 27, 2024

Happy Thursday friends! Today I am excited to share about the surprising and amazing benefits of strawberries! If you missed my instagram post from a couple of days ago (HERE) or this instagram story HERE, you may not have seen that we have loved the strawberries this season!

I admit that while I do eat frozen strawberries throughout the year in my smoothies, there is just something extremely delicious about fresh strawberries! As I was researching about more about them, I was amazed at the incredible studies that have been done on the power of this little fruit that packs such an important health punch.

Today I am so excited to share with y'all 10 surprising and Amazing Benefits of Eating strawberries:

1. Excellent Source of Vitamin C
Strawberries are an excellent source of Vitamin C and one serving contains about HALF of your daily requirement!!  This dentist in Del Mar CA adds that vitamin C is not only good for your immune system but also for your gum health. It helps keeping the connective tissues in your gums, which hold your teeth in place.

2. Helps Protect and Maintain Your Heart
There are many studies that link strawberries to hearth health! One study even showed that eating 2.5 servings of strawberries each and every day for a month significantly improved endothelial (the membrane in heart and blood vessels) function and antioxidant status.

3. Defense Against Endothelial Dysfunction
Endothelial Dysfunction is characterized by the abnormal functioning of inner lining of our blood vessels. In scientific studies that have been performed strawberries have shown to provide protection against endothelial dysfunction.

4. Unique Antioxidant power
Strawberries contain Ellagic Acid which is an antioxidant that has anti-inflammatory effects which can help slow down, prevent or even reverse certain chronic diseases!

5. Improves Brain Power
A Nurses Health Study measured brain function in nearly 20,000 patients over the course of six years. During this time it found that people who ate blueberries and strawberries had less cognitive decline and even had the brain power of someone up to 2 and 1/2 years younger than them!

In addition to this the Rush Memory and Aging Project showed that people who consumed strawberries regularly were 34% less likely to develop Alzheimer's!

6. Helps to Lower Inflammation
Strawberries are a food that you should consume regularly if you are looking to help your body reduce chronic inflammation. Strawberries naturally cause a reduction in inflammation and allow your body's processes to happen as they should.

7. Beneficial for Eye Health
Some studies have shown that the antioxidant properties in strawberries may also help prevent the production of cataracts which is a clouding over the eye lens. Cataracts also can lead to blindness in older age. Vitamin C is known to play an important role in strengthening the eye's cornea and retina and can help benefit your eyes!

8. Helps to Regulate Blood Pressure
Potassium (found in Strawberries) is considered to help not only our hearts, but also can help regulate blood pressure!

9.  Helps Maintain Beautiful Skin
Because strawberries contain so many "skin friendly" vitamins, blackberries help to maintain beautiful looking skin and even helps prevent the skin from wrinkling. In addition to this studies have shown that the Vitamin C that is present in strawberries is also responsible for the formation and strengthening of collagen structure which helps to keep the skin toned and tightened.

caravan sonnet
Happy Wednesday friends! I am excited to join in on the What's Up Wednesday posts again this month!

If you are like me then I truly am literally in shock that it is the end of June!! It seems that the summer months just fly at the cabin. Yesterday was the first time we were down on the shore and it was lovely to spend a few hours down there. I am looking forward to lots more time at the cabin and on the shore.

What We're Eating this Month...
caravan sonnet
This salad (arugula, strawberries, walnuts, and red onions, is on a constant repeat. In my defense though, arugula is incredible and it is so good for you. I shared an entire post (HERE) of the health benefits but if you haven't had a chance to check it out then go ahead and look at it. You will be shocked I am sure as I was to learn about how good it is for you!
caravan sonnet
Another salad that is on repeat is this easy and delicious apple, bacon, and goat cheese with honey mustard dressing. This month I shared an entire post on it (you can read it HERE) and it is so easy and so delicious y'all. You will love it!

What I'm Reminiscing About...

Room F112.

As I am working on final edits and pages for my upcoming book, The Opportunity Cost of the Sun (releasing soon!!), I have been remembering the absolute precious times in that classroom above.

Interested in keeping up to date with the book release? You can read more HERE and sign up for updates (on the book and other fun projects) by following along by signing up with your email HERE!

What I'm Loving...
caravan sonnet
Summer evenings at the cabin.

I also shared many amazing summer things to do on Lake Champlain this past month (you can read them HERE). Y'all I admit... this is a different season... a quieter season right now and some of that has brought grief in a different way ... missing the days of old... grief is funny that way- it seems to sneak up on you in all different avenues. There have been tears sometimes... and I am realizing anew the way that the quiet is allowing me to heal. For all of you walking a healing journey my heart is with you.
caravan sonnet
I also really loved the opportunity to hear from so many of you about your quiet times with the Lord. I shared a little glimpse into mine in a post back in April (read HERE), and love hearing what so many of you are also doing!

What I've Been Up To...
A LOT of behind the scenes things for work, jobs, the shop and the blog. There are a lot of announcements coming up in the days, weeks, and months ahead and I look forward to sharing more.

A sneak peek of something exciting coming in July...
caravan sonnet
If you want to follow along on this VERY special and close to my heart project you can join the very new IG community HERE. More coming soon!
caravan sonnet
On Monday I shared all about the refresh of the Caravan Sonnet Shoppe and I am loving the new look! You can check it out HERE!

What I'm Dreading...
Honestly absolutely nothing.

What I'm Working on...
In addition to the shops and editing, I am working on cleaning out and truly embracing more minimalism in so many different areas of life. It is a long process, but one that I have been truly working on recently and a focus this year.

What I'm Thankful for...
caravan sonnet
Amazing blessings from the Lord... in tiny ways- and in ways that we are trusting for, we continue to walk with faith... one moment at a time.

What I'm Excited About...
caravan sonnet
More Summer.

What I'm Watching/Reading...
caravan sonnet
I am working my way through this one again. I have said this almost at nauseum but there has not been a book that has impacted my faith more over the last 5 years then this book. I need to do an entire blog post on why, but for now, my tender heart will just say that if you are living in a season of broken dreams and spending lots of time weeping... this book is for you. You can find it HERE.

What I'm Listening To...
caravan sonnet
I shared this over the last year, but on my morning walks I have been listening to different sermons and a recent one I have listened to again and again from Joel Osteen was on Supernatural Provision. If you are looking for an encouraging and uplifting message during a difficult season, this message from Joel Osteen has been incredibly encouraging and I have listened to it on repeat this week!  You can find it HERE!

What I'm Doing This Weekend...
I am looking forward to a beautiful weekend at the cabin! We are also packing for an exciting trip next week that I will share more about soon!

What I'm Looking Forward to Next Month...
caravan sonnet
Believing that this next month will see tons of answers to big prayers that we have been praying, crying out to the Lord for in miraculous ways!

What Amazon Purchase I loved this Month...
caravan sonnet
This book.
I bought this book for my sweet mama and she absolutely loves it! If you are looking for a book for your parents this one is so encouraging, real, and makes my mom laugh out loud and encourage her at this stage of life. Full of life and encouragement- I definitely recommend it y'all!

Finally, after taking a couple of years away, I am back active on Pinterest. Are y'all on Pinterest still? If so, leave your name below and I would love to follow along! You can find me HERE!

boost curb appeal and your home's value

June 25, 2024

So, you want to spruce up your home’s exterior without turning into that obsessive neighbor who manicures their lawn with nail scissors? Whether you're looking to sell or just want to make your neighbors jealous (come on, we all do a little), enhancing your home's curb appeal is a brilliant place to start because not only will it look great, but if you choose your renovations wisely, it will also add value to your home too…

1. Say Hello with New Windows and Doors

First impressions count, and nothing yells "neglected" like a door that’s seen better days or windows that look like they've survived a zombie apocalypse. Upgrading to new, energy-efficient windows, which you can do here, and a front door that is draft-free, smart and long-lasting, then will all change the face of your home dramatically, and add more value than you might think to boot. As if that wasn’t enough they’ll make your home even more energy-efficient too, so you can save money on your bills as well as making it on the value!

2. Paint: A Little Goes a Long Way

Never underestimate the power of paint. A fresh coat on your front door, trim, or shutters can bring instant life to your home’s appearance. Choose a color that complements your home’s style—whether that’s a classic neutral or something bold and eye-catching (like turquoise, why not?). It’s the cheapest therapy you'll find for a dreary exterior.

3. Light It Up

Good lighting is not just for setting the mood; it’s also essential for safety and security. Update old fixtures or add new ones to highlight your home’s best features. Solar-powered lights along the driveway or LED spotlights directed at a beautiful tree can create a welcoming ambiance after dark. Plus, well-lit homes are less inviting to burglars unless they like an audience.

4. Mailbox Makeover

Is your mailbox sad, rusty, or just plain ugly? Give it a makeover, or get a new one that matches the style and color of your home. It’s a small detail that can make a surprising difference in your curb appeal. Think of it as the bow tie on the tuxedo—it’s small but mighty.

5. Landscaping Love

No need to recreate the Gardens of Versailles. Simple, well-maintained landscaping can significantly boost your home's curb appeal. Trim any overgrown bushes, weed the garden, and maybe plant some colorful flowers or native plants. Adding mulch to flower beds can make your greenery pop and help it stay hydrated, which is like giving your plants a spa day.

6. Fence Fix-Up

If you have a fence, make sure it’s in good condition. Repair any broken parts, give it a good clean, or a coat of stain or paint. A neat fence not only increases privacy and security but also frames your property beautifully. It’s like outlining your masterpiece.

7. Dress Up Your Driveway

Repair cracks in your driveway and consider a resurface if it’s particularly battle-scarred. For an extra touch of class, line it with low lighting or border it with flowers or decorative stones. This can turn a functional space into a grand entryway for your motor chariot.

8. Accessorize with Outdoor Art

Choose weather-resistant art pieces to add a touch of personality to your outdoor space. This could be anything from a tasteful sculpture to whimsical wind chimes or a fancy water feature. Just make sure it complements the overall look and feel of your home, unless you’re going for the eclectic, “treasure hunter” vibe.

9. Keep it Clean

Sometimes, all your home needs is a good bath. Power washing your siding, deck, sidewalks, and driveway can strip years off your house and is incredibly satisfying to watch. It’s like a detox for your home—out with the old grime, in with the new shine.

10. Update Your Roof

If your roof is in poor condition, consider repairing or replacing it. It’s a big investment, but it protects everything underneath it (which is everything, really) and plays a massive role in your home’s overall aesthetics and health.

11. Revive Your Deck or Patio

If your home boasts an outdoor living space like a deck or patio, giving it some attention can drastically improve your home’s curb appeal. Refinish the wood on your deck to make it look brand new, or add some attractive outdoor furniture to create a welcoming entertainment area. You could also add an outdoor rug and some potted plants for a cozy, lived-in look. These touches show potential buyers or admirers that your home is not just a house, but a place for living and enjoyment.

12. Upgrade Your Gutters and Downspouts

Often overlooked, gutters and downspouts play a crucial role in the appearance and function of your home. Replacing old or damaged gutters with new, more efficient ones can prevent water damage and improve the facade of your home. Consider options like copper gutters for a stylish look that also provides durability and adds an unexpected pop of elegance.

13. Innovative Address Display

Upgrade the way your house number is displayed. Instead of traditional numbers, you could use a custom plaque with larger, more modern numbers or even backlit LED numbers for an ultra-modern touch. This not only makes your home easier to find, especially at night, but also adds a chic design element to its exterior.

14. Seasonal Door Decor

Embrace the seasons with appropriate door wreaths or hangings. From spring flowers to autumn leaves, seasonal decor can make your entrance feel current and well cared for. It’s a simple touch that can make your home feel inviting and festive throughout the year.

15. Smart Home Upgrades

We really are living in the future that many of us thought we would never see, and this means that embracing smart technology as part of your curb appeal renovations is sensible, Whether it’s an automatic sprinkler system that keeps your garden looking great or smart locks and cameras on your doors to keep your home safe, smart tech adds value.

16. Hide Unsightly Elements

Strategically place shrubs or use decorative structures to hide less appealing elements like air conditioning units or trash bins. A small lattice fence or a garden bench can also double as a cover to block any unsightly areas, ensuring that all visitors and passersby see is your home’s best face.

Boosting your home’s curb appeal, as you can seek can be pretty simple, and a pretty good way to boost your home’s value at the same time —all while having a little fun. So, what’s stopping you?
