Alright, let’s chat about the overlooked aspects of cleanliness and hygiene. We all have those trusty items that feel like they’ve been with us forever, but some things just shouldn’t overstay their welcome. Cleaning and decluttering is more than just getting rid of the old; it’s about keeping our surroundings neat and tidy. Let’s uncover five items you might be surprised to find out need an annual refresh.

#1. Sponges And Dish Brushes
Let’s kick things off in the kitchen. Have you ever given a thought to the lifespan of that sponge sitting by your sink? Even though it might look fine, it’s secretly holding onto food particles and becoming a party spot for bacteria. While a hot water rinse or microwaving can help a bit, the best move is to swap them out a few times a year. On your next shopping trip, maybe look for eco-friendly options. There are some made of natural fibers or recycled materials that do the job just as well.
#2. A Little Secret About Underwear
Underwear is a bit like wine - some age better than others. But let’s be real; no matter how well you wash them, after a while, it’s time to part ways. And when you’re thinking about updating that lingerie drawer, women’s underwear by Natori might be your go-to. They’ve mastered the art of combining hygiene with style. On the daily, perhaps lean into breathable fabrics like cotton. But hey, nobody said you couldn’t treat yourself to a dash of silk or lace once in a while.
#3. Toothbrushes And Bath Loofahs
Ever noticed how after a few months your toothbrush bristles look like they’ve seen better days? Dentists aren’t just nagging for fun; they recommend changing brushes every three months. And those bath loofahs? Just like sponges, they’re secretly hoarding bacteria. Next time you’re in the market for a brush, maybe consider bamboo ones. They’re eco-friendly and have natural antibacterial vibes. For loofahs, how about a sea sponge? They’re quick-drying and just as effective.
#4. Bed Pillows
Sure, you change your pillowcases, but when was the last time you gave a thought to the pillows themselves? They slowly collect uninvited guests like dust mites and allergens. Even if they get a wash now and then, a yearly replacement isn’t too much to ask. When shopping around, think hypoallergenic. Or, for something a tad bit more luxurious, silk-filled pillows could be the ticket. They’re naturally resistant to all the yucky stuff and have a bonus of being gentle on the skin.
#5. Reusable Water Bottles
Well done for ditching disposable plastic bottles! But even the trusty reusable ones need a refresh. Even with a regular wash, certain parts, like under the cap, can get sketchy. So, an annual swap might be in order. On your next buy, check out bottles with wider mouths - they’re easier to clean. Glass or stainless steel? They’re the best at fighting off bacteria and keeping things clean and tasty.
Conclusion
Sprucing up these essentials annually isn’t just a cleanliness ritual; it’s a lifestyle upgrade. The goal isn’t just about staying sanitary; it’s about ensuring the space is a true reflection of the fabulous individual living in it. Cleanliness might be next to godliness, but with these swaps, it’s also next to stylishness!

Walk in with your eyes wide open. The hardest thing in this journey can be friends who leave so truly understand that it is a long term thing.
When you offer unsolicited advice, it can come across as a lecture- even if that is not your intent. Someone once said: "Assume that we have heard all of the tips on living healthier and leave it at that." I couldn't have said it any better.
Even with insurance patients with chronic diseases spend thousands and thousands of dollars trying to get healthy. Many people with Chronic Illness, like myself, have already gone through all available resources. These types of gifts do not have to be large either. Someone gave me a five dollar gift card to Target in the middle of my journey that helped purchase necessities. Such a blessing! Truly gift cards are wonderful if that is an option for you to give!
5. Understand that Chronic Illness' are complex.
6. Send an email or a text just to say "hello".
It doesn't have to be long or take a lot of time but sending a quick "thank you" is truly a blessing.
One friend of mine has a friend who comes over weekly to mow her lawn since her husband fell ill. This gift has been a priceless help during an incredibly difficult time. If you don't have the time for housework or yard work consider spending the money on purchasing these services as a gift.
One of my dear friends always leaves her message with adding in precious words of "you don't have to call back...". Such a precious gift filled with understanding.
A friend of mine has a friend who is a masseuse and offers a massage free of charge to her friend once a month. Another friend runs a house-cleaning business and offers her services free of charge once a month.
Many times those with chronic conditions are forced to miss out on everyday and important events. An offer to take their children would give them a piece of mind.
Those with chronic illnesses spend a lot of time in bed or in the hospital and nice pajamas are always a lovely gift.
One day when I ended up in the emergency room and I texted a few friends asking for prayer. One friend responded back asking me if I truly had faith that I would be healed because then I wouldn't need prayer. I am sure it was not meant to be hurtful but the timing could not have been any worse. It came as the nurse attempted her sixth stick for an IV and I couldn't stop throwing up. I expected some encouraging words only to read those words which were incredibly hurtful. Timing, as the old adage says truly is everything.
20. Flowers.
Is there ever a wrong time for flowers? *smiles*
21. Don't say: "But you don't look sick" or... "But you don't act sick".
One of the most read posts on my blog is my post entitled, "But You Don't Act Sick" (click HERE to read). I am not sure what a sick person is supposed to act or look like but the reality is that there is a reason many illnesses are called "invisible illnesses".
22. Treat your friend as a whole person.
The best gifts I am offered are by my closest friends and family who treat me as a whole person. I am more than my illness. I have a lot of other things going on in life and while my illness may be central to a lot of the issues, I still like to talk about normal everyday things.
23. Offer a gift card to buy movies or TV seasons or purchase a Netflix, Pureflix, or Hulu subscription.
This definitely can help pass the time.
24. Respect the limitations and boundaries of your friend.
One of the hardest parts of dealing with a chronic illness is not having the energy to cook. Meals are a gift. One idea is to offer a meal once a month which would be a complete blessing for someone.

Happy Thursday friends! I hope that you have a wonderful day!
Happy Wednesday friends! Today I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite hallmark movies to curl up and watch during the fall season. It is true that Hallmark often focuses on Christmas and the Holiday movies but there are several fall themed ones that are often overlooked and are so cute and adorable. If you are looking for sweet, feel-good, and fun autumn movies to watch this season here are a few of my favorites...
Hallmark Description: A widowed surgeon visits her family’s pear orchard in hopes of taking a break from her overbooked life and reconnecting with her distant son. She starts to fall for the farm manager, Will, who is growing a new hybrid pear and teaches her the importance of her heritage. Stars Jen Lilley and Ryan Paevey.
Y'all I came across this movie on Amazon and I immediately thought it was one of the sweetest movies. I have high respect for both actors and the work that they do outside of acting and to see them in this sweet and adorable movie together made this for an easy pick for one of my favorite hallmark movies to curl up with this autumn. Also... can I just say that a man who loves the outdoors obviously would make my heart smile. *smiles*

Other movies I loved with these two actors...
Hallmark Description: After being stood up, Abbey gets inspired to open her heart in a letter, put it in a bottle and toss it out to sea. Months later, a man fishing discovers it and opts to reach out. Starring Bethany Joy Lenz and Andrew Walker.
I think that this movie originally premiered in the Spring, but it feels like a fall movie to me and I had to include it because it is so cute. Again, I have high respect for both actors and the work that they do outside of acting and to see them in this sweet and adorable movie together made this for an easy pick for one of my favorite hallmark movies to curl up with this autumn. Also... anyone who knows me well remembers all of the notes in bottles that were put into the lake back in my teenage days and well understands why I would love this movie. *smiles*

Other movies I loved with these two actors...
Snowed Inn Christmas (Starring Bethany Joy and Andrew together)
3-5. All of My Heart (The Trilogy)
Hallmark Description: A young caterer’s life suddenly changes course when she inherits a country home and learns she must share it with a career-obsessed Wall Street trader. At first, these opposites do not attract, but feelings begin to change when they find themselves having to work side-by-side to restore their newly acquired home.
Hallmark Description: Brian and Jenny are engaged and preparing for the grand opening of their bed and breakfast. But when a big storm hits Bucks County, all their plans end up sopping wet! With funds running low and time running out, Brian agrees to go back to Wall Street to make quick cash, while Jenny scrambles to keep the opening on track. Stars Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott.
5. All of My Heart: The Wedding
Hallmark Description: Jenny and Brian are planning their incredibly romantic wedding. Emily’s Country Inn is filled to capacity with happy guests. Then a distant relative of Emily’s arrives and she stakes a claim to the house. The pressure is on as Jenny and Brian try to raise enough money to hang onto their home. They go for broke expanding her company, Jenny’s Home Baked. Brian even considers a return to Wall Street. All of the wonderful friends they made in Bucks County are worried about their favorite couple, trying to figure out how to help. Jenny and Brian’s enduring love will once again be tested as the wedding day approaches and they struggle to keep the house that brought them together. Starring Lacey Chabert and Brennan Elliott.
These three movies were so adorable... and y'all the goats. So cute. Again, I have high respect for both actors and the work that they do outside of acting and to see them in these sweet and adorable movies together made this for an easy pick for a few of my favorite hallmark movies to curl up with this autumn.

Other movies I loved with these two actors...
Crossword Mystery Series (Starring Lacey and Brennan together)
Time for Us to Come Home for Christmas
The Wedding Veil (Entire Series)
Hallmark Description: When her family goes bankrupt, privileged city girl Jen Stone travels to the country to try and help a struggling pumpkin farm that her father bought as an investment to get her money back. Not everyone is on board with her changes, least of all Brett, the farm’s handsome manager. By working with what she knows best, she just might be able to turn the farm around, while also falling in love.
Y'all this one is simply so cute. It makes you laugh and it really is just a precious story. It was a Hallmark movie that I felt the trailer for it really didn't do justice for it and am so glad that we took a chance and tried it. It really is just so so cute.
Find it on Amazon HERE!
Hallmark Description: Following her tour of duty, army nurse Grace Conner (Macallan) returns to her grandmother’s (McGillis) farm in Ohio’s Amish country, and answers a neighbor’s call for medical assistance following a mysterious intrusion and shooting at his family’s nearby farm. Soon, Grace, who is not Amish, and Levi Troyer (Faris) develop a deep connection that is more than simply neighborly, and must sort out their forbidden relationship while Grace follows clues that ultimately lead her to the killer. Stars Jes Macallan, Sean Faris and Kelly McGillis.
This movie had a bit of a mystery with it and is a fun Hallmark movie to curl up with this autumn. It is honestly one of my favorites and I loved the plot and the character development. This family friendly mystery is a perfect one to watch on a cool fall evening.
