5 Ways To Unwind, Relax and Just Be!

February 4, 2020

We need to relax. We work harder than ever, we play harder than ever, and we’re getting far less sleep than ever before. Without a moment to rest, we become tense, sore, sick and sad - and none of that is a good combination. There are positive effects on your health when you relax, and you can reduce your blood pressure, improve your concentration and you can sleep better at night.

Everyday life has us stressed and worried more than ever before, and you don’t have to be an expert in yoga to be able to relax in the first place. There are plenty of easy ways that you can relax, but we all need a nudge in the right direction sometimes. Often, we need someone to tell us to slow down and wait for a moment. So, how can you take a moment and wind down for a change? Let’s check out five ways to do just that.

  1. Eat More Fruit. Believe it or not, Vitamin C works as an excellent stress buster. You can keep your cortisol levels low when you eat your vitamin C, and so eating more fruit that is laden with it is going to help you to relax better and be less stressed out. Sometimes, even the smell is enough to reduce your anxiety levels and unwind.
  2. Go For A Walk. Not a power walk, but a stroll. Being outside in the air reduces our stress hormones significantly, and you'll find that you get a brilliant energy boost at the same time. Being in nature can really help, and when your get up and go has got up and gone, you can feel newly refreshed for a change!
  3. See Your Friends. Whether you want to sit around chatting and smoking cannabis, or you want to go out and do something adrenaline-inducing, it all helps you to relax. The spike in adrenaline causes your body to relax afterwards, and who doesn't love to go on rollercoasters and laugh with their friends? Seeing friends lifts the soul.
  4. Sit back and listen to music. Choose music that increases the production of dopamine in your brain. You can check out your favourite playlists and unwind entirely by just listening to the music being played. It can cause memories to come to the surface, and you can immerse yourself in the movement of sound. It’s a great way to relax.
  5. Meditate. Lastly, take a moment and just stop. Sit down and breathe slowly. Meditation is proven to help you to relax, and it's not a crazy way to do so. You can dim lights and set the atmosphere for relaxation. Make sure it’s warm inside so that you feel comfortable at all times. Put on music if that’ll help, and ensure that you are going to feel calm and peaceful the whole time.

Relaxation and taking a moment just to be? These things aren't easy to come by. However, once you find it, you’ll embrace it and be able to do it more often.
