All About Dexa Scans

Happy Thursday friends! Today for this Thursday Health Thoughts post I am excited to chat about DEXA Scans. If you are not familiar with them, DEXA Scans are a precise and accurate way of measuring the bodies composition using x-ray technology to determine the way that the body has distributed lean muscle, water, fat, and bone in your body. It is a quick and safe scan (it takes approximately 7 minutes to complete) and it is completely open (as you can see in the picture above).
Dexa Scan Body Composition
You may be wondering why you should do a DEXA Scan and if it is for you. One of the main benefits of a DEXA Scan is that it gives you the most precise information and results can show you not only your overall body fat and lean tissue but also it will break it down for your legs, arms, and torso.

The primary advantage though of using a DEXA Scan over other estimating devices is that the DEXA Scan is precise and will also help track fat around your organs.

Dexa Bone Density Scan
Another advantage of a scan is the opportunity to monitor your bone density. This scan is one that is accurate in identifying osteoporosis and potential future fracture areas. The Dexa Bone scan will actual measure your bone mineral density. In this case, if your doctor agrees that you would be a good candidate for the scan many insurance programs will cover the test.

One of my favorite things about both of these types of scans is the fact that they are both painless, non-invasive and the radiation for both is very low. I love that this type of scan exists to help people be able to easily and safely identify areas to keep their health at top performance. Interested in pursuing a DEXA Scan? Follow these 5 simple steps!
Step 1:
Find a location near you

Step 2:
Schedule an appointment at the location

Step 3:
Prepare for your appointment. Make sure that you do not wear clothing that contains metal zippers or hooks and that you do not take calcium supplements for at least 24 hours before the scan. Have additional concerns? Talk with your doctor before the exam!

Step 4:
Arrive at the location, take your scan, and finish 7 minutes later! SO easy!

Step 5:
Get your results and discuss them with a professional

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading today about the DEXA Scan! I hope you have a wonderful Thursday!
