Notes from the Porch: the second week of California one

May 4, 2013

Thank you so much for walking this unexpected journey with me in California. I am truly overwhelmed by your love and support. Thank you so much to all of you that were praying for this first week of treatment at the Whitaker Wellness Institute. There have been tons of emotions that have accompanied this week and I truly have appreciated all of your prayers. I have been so impressed with those that work at the institute, their compassion, their knowledge, their kindness, and their laughter and hope for each patient that is there. I had a wonderful appointment with my doctor and she had lots of great thoughts and ideas.
My treatment this week has revolved around the alternative treatments that I mentioned before (hyperbaric oxygen chamber and IV vitamin c) and a couple of introductory antibiotic medications. Due to the kindness of these strangers lovely people I have been overwhelmed with hope here. A perfect example of this is the patience of those that work with the hyperbaric oxygen chamber area. I really had no idea that I struggled with claustrophobia until I had to go into one of those chambers! If you have never been in one it is almost impossible to explain how SMALL they are! The guys that work in there were SO kind and because of them I have spent hours this week getting good oxygen to help kill the Lymes disease and some other things that are going on in my body.

This week also brought with it some difficult moments and days and it is in those dark moments where I am so thankful for all of your prayers. Truly the Lord bears our burdens each day (psalm 68:19) and I was reminded of that this week in hundreds of different moments.

I wanted to share with you a few lots of pictures from this past week. I have been so amazed by how beautiful California TRULY is! The following pictures are from my hotel window. Such a beautiful and peaceful view at the end of long treatment days
Before my dad left on Wednesday he drove me out to the beach and also to Balboa Island.
It was too far for me to walk to the ocean but I was so excited to see the beauty and the wonder of the ocean!
We then headed to Balboa Island which I had read about as a kid & was SO excited to see it!
One of the things that I love about California is all of the beautiful and unique flowers!

California is TRULY very beautiful! It is so wonderful to have Michelle here! I have to run to have an oxygen treatment (yes, there is treatment on the weekends *smiles*)Thank you again for all of your prayers, support, and love during this difficult time! I love y'all!

  1. Rebecca, these photos are beautiful. It reminds me of when I lived in South Florida. At times, the winters here in the Northeast seem much to long, and even this morning, though lovely, we're starting at a brisk 31 degrees. The photos of the city landscapes, beachscapes and flowers are stunning and exactly what I need this chilly morning. Prayers for you that you get the treatment you need and that you are back to 100% asap. :-)
