Peggy's Cove Lighthouse// Nova Scotia, Canada

October 31, 2021

Happy Sunday friends! I am excited to spend the next couple of weeks sharing with y'all some recap posts from the girls trip that I took four years ago through New England, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia (along with some new posts from this time that I never shared also!)! I hope that it encourages you to consider taking a road trip (in part or in whole depending on your circumstances) this fall to these beautiful places in the world.
------------------------------
Happy Friday friends! Today I am so excited to continue to share more about my recent trip through
New England, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia! As I mentioned on Wednesday, I was absolutely enchanted by Peggy's Cove! It was just a truly beautiful place.

After we walked around Peggy's Cove we drove about a mile to the parking lot area by the lighthouse. The time of year that we went in (October) was absolutely perfect as it was easy to find parking and there were not a ton of people. It was just truly beautiful!
As a little bit of history, the first lighthouse at Peggy's Cove was built in 1868. At the time history records that every evening at sundown the Lighthouse keeper would light a kerosene oil lamp that would create a red beacon light that marked the Eastern Entrance to the bay.
In 1914 that lighthouse was replaced by the current building which is an octagonal lighthouse. Unlike the wooden house that it replaced, this building was made of reinforced concrete. Although the new lighthouse replaced the one built in 1868 the former structure remained in tact and in use as the Lighthouse keepers dwelling until it was severely damaged by a hurricane in 1954. Due to the extensive damage it was eventually removed.
As a fun fact, the lighthouse used to actually contain a Canadian post office in the lower level that was in full operation in the summer months. It served as the village post office but also allowed visitors to send postcards and letters. On each of the letters and mail a special stamp mark in the shape of the lighthouse was used as the "cancellation" of postage. Unfortunately it was closed in 2009 due to mold growth.
Like the rich and beautiful history, the natural surroundings and landscape were truly beautiful.
It was a brief, but it was a wonderful visit and I would definitely recommend it! I would love to go back someday! If you are planning a similar trip and would like, you can read all of the posts from the trip by clicking on the links below:

Happy Saturday friends! I hope that you are finishing up a great week! Today I am excited to share the top 5 items that y'all have loved the most from the Caravan Sonnet Shoppe for the month of September!

I have been SO excited about all of the additions in this first month of the shoppe being opened and I am I am thrilled that y'all are loving these products! You may be wondering why I am sharing this information and I wanted to share a little background on why:

I am loving using this information to see what products that y'all are liking and buying. I am constantly making new items and creating new things for my classes, but if it is not helpful for another teacher I don't want to waste anyone's time in putting it in the shop. Instead I want to put in the shop things that are helpful, creative and colorful, and most of all educational.

I also want to take a moment to say thank you for every single purchase that has been made in the shop. My goal is to grow this into a full time business and because I am working incredibly hard behind the scenes to make this happen, I want to share the products that others are finding helpful in case you or a teacher/homeschool mama friend could find them useful also. There is a lot that goes into this work and I am LOVING it but I know it wouldn't be possible without YOU. So thank you again for your support of my newest shoppe!

Peggy's Cove // Nova Scotia, Canada

-----------------------------------------------------
Happy Wednesday friends! Today I am so excited to continue to share more about my recent trip through
New England, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia! I shared before about how one of my favorite parts of the trip was the day we spent visiting Nova Scotia. I truly fell in love with this area and had I to plan the trip again I definitely would have spent more time in this area! Despite the little time I was blown away by the beauty as I drove through this province! Today I am so excited to share with you my favorite stop from this drive- Peggy's Cove! For those who may be planning a similar trip I created this map below for a reference guide:
From Halifax (where we visited the Halifax Citadel) to Peggy's Cove, our second stop in Nova Scotia, it took about an hour and the drive was absolutely gorgeous. I definitely recommend the drive alone. We arrived at Peggy's Cove around noon and we were both stunned at the absolute beauty that surrounded us.
When I was originally planning our trip through New England, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia, I knew that I wanted to see the famous Peggy's Cove Lighthouse. I will be honest that I wasn't even prepared for the beauty and adorable quaintness of the town before you even spend time at the Lighthouse!
We parked and walked around the town for a little bit and took tons of pictures because you felt like you had stepped out into a storybook. The surroundings, the colors, and the water were just breathtaking.
Peggy's Cove (originally named Eastern Point Harbour or Peggs Harbour in 1766) is one of numerous small fishing communities that are located along the Chebucto Peninsula. I was amazed to learn and discover that Samuel de Champlain (Lake Champlain is named after him and so are other beautiful parts of the North East and Canada) also is credited with naming this area supposedly after his mother, Marguerite.
The village itself was officially founded in 1811 when six families were granted more than 800 acres by the Province of Nova Scotia. While fishing was the main source of their economy, the settlers also used the surrounding lands to farm. In the early 1900s the village grew to about 300 people and supported a schoolhouse, general store, lobster cannery, and church. Boats of all sizes were protected in the cove and this tradition continues to this day.
I had heard that artists and photographers love to visit Peggy's Cove and it was incredibly easy to see why. As I have said before, the beauty that we were met with was just incredible.
Everywhere you turned there was fantastic colors that as an artist your eye was just drawn to - it was truly incredible!
It was a brief, but it was wonderful and I would definitely recommend it! Stay tuned because next I am sharing about Peggy's Cove Lighthouse which was also unbelievable! I would love to go back someday! If you are planning a similar trip and would like, you can read all of the posts from the trip by clicking on the links below:

Make 2022 The Year You Achieve Your Goals

https://unsplash.com/photos/TdPGSnFBFtM

New year, new start… that’s what they all say! Well, why not make 2022 count? At the start of every year, the vast majority of us set a number of goals that we want to achieve throughout the following 12 months. Do you always reach your goals? Most people give up trying within the first month or two. Does this sound familiar? If so, read on to discover how you can make sure you achieve your goals in 2022.

  • Know your why – In order to achieve your goals, you need to be effective at creating them in the first place. One of the keys to creating a successful goal is knowing the why. Why are you doing this? Why do you want to lose weight, for example? Simply doing this because you feel you should is not a good enough reason. Perhaps you want to look amazing for a certain event? Maybe you want to be healthier so you can participate in a particular sport?

  • Don’t be too harsh on yourself – If you experience a setback, or you need to start over, don’t be too harsh on yourself. We all fail from time to time; it’s part of the process. Equally, you should reward yourself when you do something good.

  • Tell people – By telling people about your goals, you will experience a number of benefits. Firstly, you will feel accountable, and this will make you a lot more likely to reach your goals. Secondly, you will have a support system, and so when you are struggling, you can turn to your friends and family members for encouragement and advice.

  • Take baby steps – One of the main reasons why we do not achieve our goals is because we give ourselves a mountain to climb. Let’s take quitting smoking as a prime example. A lot of people reading this will have decided they want to give up smoking for 2022. However, simply saying, “from this day forward, I won’t smoke” is not usually the best way to go about it. You need to gradually stop smoking. You can either switch to vaping, which you can find out more about at Ecigoz, and then work your way to giving up that. Or, you can reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke per day, a little bit at a time until you stop smoking altogether. This is a much more manageable way of achieving your goals, rather than making it way too difficult for yourself.

  • Track your progress – This relates to the former point regarding taking baby steps. You should track your progress regularly to see whether you are on target or not. This will help you to remain motivated while also reinforcing accountability.

So there you have it: follow the tips that have been mentioned above and you will have a much better chance of achieving your goals in 2022. Good luck!
