Stressful Job? Here’s How to Survive a 60-Hour Work Week

October 14, 2019

It isn’t uncommon to work 60+ hours a week, and this is especially the case if you have a demanding or stressful job. If you feel as though you are having way too many weeks like this, then you need to make sure that it doesn’t affect your physical or mental health. This is easier said than done, but there are a few things that you can do to try and help yourself.
Take Breaks
It is important that you stay focused on your work, but it’s also important that you take breaks from time to time too. This may sound counterintuitive but if you do take breaks then this can actually help you to get work done faster. If you work on something for a very long period of time, you may find that you lose focus and that you make way more errors. This will ultimately slow down your progress and it will also make it harder for you to meet deadlines. Having breaks is the best way for you to recharge your brain and it also helps you to regain the focus you need to complete the project with a high level of accuracy and efficiency.

Exercise Routine
You may think that if you are busy at work, you might not have the time to plan out a whole new fitness regime. If you work out on a regular basis then make sure that you don’t stop. Exercise is a fantastic way for you to relieve stress and if you are working 60 hours a week then there’s a high chance that you can benefit from this. If you don’t workout then try and squeeze little bits of exercise into your schedule throughout the week. This could include taking the stairs when you go to work or even cycling in the morning instead of taking the bus.
Make Time for Fun
So many people who work long hours think about having a schedule that gives them some free time. This is understandable because if you continually feel as though you go to work, come home and sleep, then this isn’t a very good lifestyle. You need to make sure that you fit something pleasurable into your routine as much as possible. If you have two hours free at the end of a Friday night, then go to a movie instead of going home and lounging on the sofa. If you don’t do something like this then you may come to resent your job and your mental health will suffer. You may even turn to drugs to relieve your mental stress too, and this could include taking more medication than you should be for any existing mental health problems. If you have ADHD and want to stop this from happening, look into Vyvanse vs Adderall.
Drink Lots of Water
It’s so vital that you hydrate yourself and that you also take the time to look after yourself too. Water is essential for your brain function and it also serves as a biological function for your body too. If you find the taste of water boring then think about adding slices of orange, apple or even lemon to give it a light flavour.
