Beluga Point // Anchorage, Alaska

Happy Thursday friends! Today I am excited to continue recap my Alaskan Road Trip Adventures from 2019. As I have shared, I wanted to do this because I hope that it encourages you to consider taking a road trip of your own this summer to this beautiful part of the world! Yesterday and on Monday I shared about our stay at the Hyatt Place Anchorage-Midtown and it definitely was an incredible place to start our trip off with!

Our trip started early on a Saturday morning and after a yummy breakfast at Snow City Cafe (a favorite restaurant I discovered last year!), we headed south to the Kenai Peninsula to spend time at several different locations.

Today I am excited to share about our stop at Beluga Point along Turnigan Arm (just south of Anchorage) on the beautiful and scenic Seward Highway. If you read about the Alaskan road trip that I did last year than you may have read about the beautiful Seward Highway, but if you missed the post you can find and read it HERE!

Beluga Point is a stop that I wanted to make for several reasons, and the main one is just because of the sheer beauty that surrounds you at the site.

Another reason that I wanted to stop here is for the incredible views that you get of Turnigan Arm going south! It really gives you a great beginning view of the whole area!

Another reason that I wanted to stop in this specific location was because of the Beluga whales that are often spotted in this area from mid-July through August. In my research for the trip I learned that the numbers have ranged in the 300s for the amount of Beluga whales that are often seen in Cook Inlet because of the Salmon that they can feed on in this location. While we didn't see any whales, we did enjoy the beauty that we found and it was a gorgeous stop to make at the beginning of our trip!

It was a beautiful first stop to make on our Alaskan road trip and it is so easy to get to from Anchorage as it is just 6 and a 1/2 miles south of the city limits. For reference if you are planning a similar trip Beluga Point is located at milepost 110.5 on the Seward Highway.

A wonderful thing about this stop is that is very disability friendly as there is pavement parking (a u-shaped parking area with lots of spaces) that offer a wonderful view of the area. While the path down is not wheelchair friendly, it is just a short walk and could be handled by those that can walk short distances.
