Today I am so excited to share 10 of the most affordable and helpful supplements that I used to take (and some I still take) for helping to heal my adrenal glands in hopes that it may help other Lymies who are fighting for their health and looking for the most affordable products. I first shared this post in 2020 and have since updated it as I continue to learn more and more!
As most Lymies know, dealing with fatigue is a serious symptom that most of us deal with on a daily basis. The adrenal glands play a huge part in the healing journey of any patient and the stress that happens to their body. There is a debate in Lyme world about which came first (the Lyme destabilizing the adrenal glands or the adrenal glands being under stress and weakened so that the immune system could not fight Lyme Disease - (source)), but either way this is a part of the journey. It is also a significant thing to consider, especially for those who are not seeing healing results in ways that they had hoped or wanted.
“Dr. Gerald Poesnecker, a naturopathic physician who specialized in adrenal fatigue and who treated patients with this condition for many, many years, believed that if a person’s adrenal fatigue were severe enough, then the body wouldn’t mount an immune response to any treatments that were given it...he writes, ‘the bodies of patients with a low adrenal adaptive ability have lost much of their ability to create the needed reaction to produce a cure. On the contrary, when the body is not able to use the energy of these therapies constructively, they actually tend to produce a worsening of the underlying condition because, to the body, they become a stress and not a cure…” (source)
With this concept and many other doctors mentioning how important it is to heal the adrenals alongside healing Lyme comes a tricky concept that many people have tried to master throughout there journeys. It is a tricky endeavor, mostly because like everything with Lyme each patient is different.
As a quick background, my adrenal glands tested into the adrenal failure range at one point in this journey (a common issue for many Lyme patients) and needed medical intervention. At the same time my medical team helped me to nutritionally (through my diet) and supplementally (through a variety of supplements listed below and others that are not listed) support and start the SLOW and LONG process of healing them. As I mentioned above many of these products I continue to use as I continue to repair this area of my body from the fight from Lyme. It is a long road to repair the adrenals and it is something that needs to be considered as such. Don't be discouraged if you don't see results right away. They will come!
Due to my specific issues with Lyme there are many times that a variety of different companies have the same product but I have to use a quality rich supplement from a specific company due to manufacturing. I hope that these help! Here in no particular order are 10 of my tops supplements that I used to use or still use everyday:
1. HAD Adrenal Drops
"HAD Adrenal Drops is a unique homeopathic organotherapy preparation synergistically formulated to restore and support normal adrenal and endocrine functions. Insufficient adrenal function can result in deficient muscular metabolism, lowered resistance to infections, and reproductive and endocrine dysfunctions. HAD Adrenal Drops is indicated for symptoms associated with adrenal disorders, including stress, fatigue, insomnia and adrenal atrophy; and for allergies, hypoglycemia, chronic infections, inflammation and mineralization disorders."
I listed this one first because this is a product that I have used and continue to use and have felt the most difference with. For those who are extremely sensitive to new products (like I was for a very long time) my doctor started me putting a drop on my skin every day and we worked up to the recommended drops before starting this internally.
Many doctors offices carry this product or you can find it on the Internet. It sometimes is available on Amazon but currently it is out of stock so I have found it the cheapest at on Pure Formulas website for $20.30 HERE.
Vitamin B5, or commonly known as Pantothenic Acid is a an important part of healing your adrenal glands as it helps to produce co-enzyme A. Co-enzyme A contributes to cellular respiration and also helps in the breakdown of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
Over the years I have tried a variety of different Pantothenic Acid brands but consistently return to NOW's formula for the quality and also the price. You can find it for less than $13 on Amazon by clicking HERE.
Vitamin B6, is a an important part of restoring your adrenal glands as helps the functions of several pathways that are used to create adrenal hormones.
Over the years I have tried a variety of different Vitamin B6 brands but consistently return to NOW's formula for the quality and also the price. You can find it for less than $7 (for a months supply!!) on Amazon by clicking HERE.
Vitamin D plays an important part in healing your adrenal glands. This is a more "newer" concept but there are so many studies that are being done that show the link between low vitamin d levels and fatigue and adrenal issues. This Biotech product, of D3-50 is one of my favorite formulas that I have found to be very beneficial. You can find it on Amazon HERE.
Lots of times we think of Vitamin C as being a powerful and important antioxidant but it also helps the adrenal glands! Vitamin C is directly involved in the production of cortisol in your adrenal glands and is an essential building block in restoring and healing your adrenal glands.
I have tried a variety of Vitamin C products over the years, but this is the one from Solaray that has best fit my needs. You can find it for less than $15 on Amazon by clicking HERE.
A word of encouragement for those who struggle with taking Vitamin C orally as I know some Lyme patients do. Consult a qualified physician for this. Despite doing high-dose Vitamin C therapy as part of my healing process from Lyme and continue to receive Vitamin C in my weekly Myers Cocktail IVs, I for a LONG LONG time couldn't take vitamin c orally. It was just one of those weird and strange things with Lyme and the way that Mast Cell had affected my body. I heard this from tons of Lymies - so if you think you are alone- you are not. It took me a while, but with the help of my medical team, I have started (under a doctors care!) to add this back in orally and this is the product that I have found the most helpful. It is a non-acidic formula which is helpful as my gut continues to heal. As I mentioned above, you can find it for less than $15 on Amazon by clicking HERE.
6. Magnesium
Similar to #5, with Vitamin C, magnesium is not a supplement that we often consider important in the role of adrenal glands, but it is! Studies have shown that more than 75% of people are deficient in magnesium which is a HUGE issue for those struggling with adrenal fatigue and failure. Sadly, a lack of appropriate magnesium levels can result in fatigue symptoms. There are all different types of magnesium forms so you will want to consult with a doctor and research what is best for your specific case. Listed below are a few of the magnesium products that I have found to be the most helpful:
Boiron Homeopathic Medicine Magnesia Phosphorica
I started using this supplement this past summer and after several months I was amazed at how much it has helped my gut. For those that struggle with IBS, abdominal cramps, stomach cramps, etc. that is helped by placing a heating pad on the area this is a great little supplement to have.
For those who are extremely sensitive patients like myself, homeopathic options are a great way to go sometimes and this is a key example. For this I definitely recommend giving it several months before you expect to see a major difference. I noticed some result and help from it quickly but after several months I noticed huge results.
You can purchase Boiron Homeopathic Medicine Magnesia Phosphorica lots of places (including your local health store) but I found it for a couple of dollars cheaper on Amazon HERE. After trying it for 6 months and seeing the beneficial difference of continuously taking it daily I found it was cheapest to purchase a pack of 5 which can be found HERE.

This is one of my favorite products, although as a disclaimer, it is also one of the more expensive supplements that I use. But it is fantastic and I find it the cheapest on Amazon. You can find it HERE.
Magnesium Oil (Magnesium Chloride)
This magnesium oil is probably been one of my most favorite products in my journey with regaining my health. I have used it for pain, but also daily use it for the benefits of adrenal rebuilding. My favorite brand is definitely this Swanson brand - it is wonderful and a bottle will last me for almost 6 months! You can find it on amazon HERE.
Magnesium Malate is a product that was recommended to me by my acupuncturist about two years ago. Unfortunately with the introduction of new treatment rounds, meds, supplements, etc. I haven't been able to try it but it is next up in the rounds for this summer. I am really excited about this product as I have been reading a ton and discussing with medical professionals the benefits of the malate form of magnesium specifically. Interestingly, "Dr.Jay Goldstein, U.S. director of the CFS Institute, has endorsed the use of malic acid as a "valid therapeutic approach" for patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome".
One of the things that I have read is that it takes at least two months to notice any difference with this magnesium so I am excited to share my findings at the end of the summer! The integrative therapeutics brand is the one that a few family members and friends have used and was recommended to me and is what I have purchased to use. You can find it HERE on Amazon.
7. Licorice
Licorice is a key component for Lyme Disease patients for a number of different things, including a helpful supplement for the gut, but Licorice also has additional health benefits beyond the gut as it is beneficial for the liver, helps to lower cholesterol levels, helps lessen the pain and fatigue of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, and can even help with PMS symptoms. One significant thing that licorice does is that it helps your cortisol circulate for longer!
With all of these benefits, Licorice was a top contender and supplement for me and yet it took a long time for me to find the right company. Unfortunately lots of licorice supplements have added ingredients, which may work for some people, but for a patient like me who is extremely fragile, I needed a supplement that was purely Licorice. After researching I found the Nature's Plus version and it has been a perfect fit for me.
For all that Licorice does, this is one of the more affordable supplements that I used to take. At this current moment I am not taking it anymore but plan to add it back in to the regime in the future. I love when a supplement is helpful and healing for my gut, but also helps my body in other areas! On Amazon it retails for under $11. You can find it on Amazon by clicking HERE.

CoQ10 is important to the overall function of our body as it is used to produce energy for growing and maintaining our cells. Studies have shows that it can also help to increase endurance. My favorite brand of CoQ10 is the one by Researched Nutritionals above. Unfortunately you will have to have a doctors code to order this and give you a code but I would definitely recommend exploring this as this supplement is phenomenal. Beyond helping with energy, I attribute the fact that I don't suffer as much from pain as other people do from Fibro or Lyme issues to this supplement alone. It took a while to see a difference but it is a "must have" for me. You can find it HERE.
If you can't get a doctors code or help with Researched Nutritionals, than this CoQ10 on Amazon is what I would recommend as the back up plan.
This supplement is used for a variety of different things but it does help to move the fatty acids into the mitochondria where we need them to help produce energy. It is also helpful for boosting metabolism and increasing energy levels.
You can find it on Amazon by clicking HERE.
10. Omega 3's
Many people are deficient in omega-3 fatty acids and this can lead to increased inflammation, which requires an increase in cortisol production to manage. (It definitely is a circle that is completely connected!) Taking a quality omega 3 supplement can help to reduce the inflammation that is throughout your body and in turn help to relieve the taxation on your adrenals.
There are so many different brands and kinds of Omega 3 products, but my favorite and the one that I use is the ultimate omega by Nordic Naturals. I would definitely consult with a physician about what kind would be the most helpful for your particular case, and Nordic Naturals offers a variety of different products. You can find the product above (and other Nordic Naturals products) on Amazon by clicking HERE.
Some Additional Helpful Information:
This book, Adrenal Fatigue, by James Wilson, is one of the best resources that I would definitely recommend. Even if you are not dealing with Lyme it is a fantastic resource and one that I have in my library and have referred back to many times. You can find it on Amazon HERE.
There have been studies done over the years that show the importance and the benefits to the adrenal glands with using Himalayan salt. The above brand is the one that I have been using for years. You can find it on Amazon by clicking HERE.
I hope that this product list is helpful for those of you struggling with Lyme Disease or those who are interested in healing your adrenal glands! Let me know if you have any questions!

They hesitate... and then the questions start.
"Is that what happens when you get bit by a tick?" they ask.
"Yes" I answer.
"When did that happen?" they ask.
"2007. May 19, 2007 to be exact." I reply.
"Not to be rude or anything but you know that you can just go to the doctors and get antibiotics for that." They state.
"Yes, I am aware of that." I reply.
"Did you get the bulls eye rash? You just need to go get medicine and get better" they state (most of them very kindly, a few a little sarcastically, and one who accused me of "simply making it up to get attention").
"No seriously, if you had the rash you should go get medicine. My ___________(insert some long lost family member's sisters friends cousin's name here) had Lyme and they got better in a few days...maybe a week at most. Why are you waiting?" They state more insistently. I hesitate and then with a quiet sigh my reply comes.
"I was bit by a tick on May 19th, 2007 hiking in Great Falls, Virginia. I remember the date exactly because my ex-finance and I talked about marriage that day. The next day as I was training for a 1/2 marathon I noticed the bulls eye rash on my upper right arm. I received medication (yes, I finished the full dosage) and was seen at John Hopkins University Hospital Lyme Center. After completing the medication I was declared "Lyme free". Except I wasn't..." I calmly reply.
Absolutely silent they look at me. And some say what I am sure everyone is thinking... "So what the heck is Lyme Disease and how in the world is this making you so ill?"
To be frank it is a question that I have asked myself thousands of times as I approach the 13 year anniversary of contracting Lyme. While my health slowly declined over the course of 5 years until I became bedridden and housebound before obtaining proper treatment, the reality is that the past decade has been spent dealing with Lyme and its ramifications on my body. After 7 years intensely fighting this disease you would think that I would be an expert in sharing a quick and succinct version of what Lyme disease is, but the truth is that the answer is just as complicated as the disease itself.
And it is a growing and widespread epidemic...
At a recent Lyme Disease conference it was stated that "Lyme Disease is the growing epidemic and health crisis of the 21st century" and that "in the fullness of time the mainstream handling of Chronic Lyme Disease will be viewed as one of the most shameful episodes in the history of medicine."

Lyme Disease is contracted by a tick bite that has been infected and then infects the person that it has bitten. While a bulls eye rash is common in most cases, in recent years there are more and more cases that occur with the person never seeing a bulls eye rash. In addition to this in there are now numerous scientific studies that have shown that in addition to a tick transferring Lyme you can also contract Lyme through being bit by a mosquito, flies, fleas, etc.

Lyme Disease is considered (by most doctors- some would disagree) an infections Disease with the bacteria in Lyme called "Borelia Burgdorferi". The Lyme bacteria is unique in its shape (it has a spiral shape) and unlike most diseases it is able to burrow into not only into the blood stream but into vital organs, muscles throughout the body, the nervous system, and body tissue. (In addition to this studies coming out of Europe have proven that Lyme has the potential to drill into bones.) Due to the unique shape and properties of the Boreilia Burgdorferi Lyme has the ability to literally infect the entire body and travel throughout the blood stream (doing incredible damage to the organs and the cells that it connects with in its way). Over time Lyme also has the ability and capability of surrounding cells, killing them, and creating a "wall" that prevents antibiotics to "break" the barriers. In addition to this the bacteria commonly makes cysts that are also difficult for antibiotics to touch.

Due to these reasons a person with Lyme (whether mis-diagnosed, mis-treated, or not caught at the time of infection) can suffer for decades before being diagnosed and can suffer a confusing and wide array of symptoms that might or might not look like other "lymies" fighting the same battle.
Lyme is considered the "Great Imitator" and is known to imitate over four hundred different diseases including CFS/ME (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome), Fibromyalgia, IBS, Lupus, MS, Autoimmune Disorders, Alzheimer's, ALS, Migraines, Depression, Meningitis, Lou Gehrig's Disease, and hundreds of others.
Patients in "late stage or chronic stage" Lyme Disease are fighting a complicated and complex battle as many (including myself) are fighting not just the Lyme but co-infections, additional diagnosis', and issues that have occurred due to the fact that Lyme has waged war on their bodies. Due to the fact that the bacteria from Lyme Disease can not only travel but multiply patients are dealing with multiple issues and symptoms. The bacteria with Lyme Disease does not like the fight and will literally "fight back" which causes a "herxheimer reaction" that can be worse than the disease itself. Due to this the "horror stories" (as the news has sometimes labeled it) are true, as some patients have died and many patients end up in the hospital and are fighting for their lives.

Due to this the "horror stories" (as the news has sometimes labeled it) are true, as some patients have died and many patients end up in the hospital and are fighting for their lives.
The symptoms of Lyme Disease vary but most people struggle from many of the following symptoms: debilitating fatigue, heart issues, heart palpitations, arthritis, facial numbness, blood pressure problems, extreme pain, autoimmune disorders, malnutrition, hair loss, vision problems, skin issues, rashes, panic attacks, adrenal failure (or fatigue), memory issues, food allergies, unexplained allergic reactions, insomnia, inability to absorb vitamins and nutrition, hormonal issues, circulation issues, dizziness, seizures, body numbness, blindness, migraines, paralysis in extremities, heart attacks, inability to handle temperature change, lung function, shortness of breath, menstrual issues, and the list goes on and on and on. I have just listed a few but here are hundreds more.
In addition to the physical aspects of fighting Lyme Disease patients are in for the FIGHT of their life not only physically but mentally, financially, and emotionally too. Most Lyme Disease patients have seen dozens of doctors (I personally saw 273-including some of the top hospitals throughout the US-before I was correctly diagnosed) and after the diagnosis can introduce the most difficult battle that is never expected.
Lyme Disease patients are warriors as they have had to push through hundreds of "all knowledgeable doctors" stating that it is "in their heads" or "they just need some meds". (I had a specialist in 2013 -after we had spent 4 hours in a snowstorm to get to his office-tell my mother (in front of me) that she was "enabling" me to continue to set a "destructive pattern" of desiring attention and that "absolutely" nothing was wrong with me. Within two months of seeing this doctor I not only had been correctly diagnosed with Lyme Disease, but aggressive skin cancer, and several other illnesses.)
Finding a doctor who is willing to treat a Lyme Disease patient long term is also another battle. Due to arguments with insurance companies, Congress, and medical limitations it is extremely difficult to find a qualified and competent doctor. This takes hours and hours and hours of research and it still doesn't guarantee you an appointment. Mentally this is absolutely exhausting for patients. And after the appointment that you have hopefully gotten there is still the treatment to fight through.

And both of these things cost an extreme amount of money.
Money that most patients (like myself) did "OK" with for the first several years of wandering the long trail of finding correct answers. But after that time period (and for some it is a much shorter time frame) money is not something that just continues to "come in". It has been spent (wisely, I would like to clarify) on finding answers, traveling to doctors across the country, treating one or two mis-diagnosis', and on numerous treatments (most alternative so insurance does not cover it). ALL of these things add up to thousands and thousands of dollars.
Like myself, most Lyme Disease patients are not able to work full time and those that have to struggle to survive day to day. Without a set source of income bank accounts, savings accounts, retirement funds, etc. are quickly depleted. I have been asked by hundreds of people- "didn't you save for a rainy day"? Or... "What about your savings account?". I am going to be incredibly honest here and share something very personal. I had a wonderful savings account (I was a Dave Ramsey's graduate *smiles*) that by year three of this "adventure" was being drained and then at years five and six was completely depleted. (Just to give you a slice of a picture I have spent in the last ten years approximately $200,000 on medical issues, supplies, supplements, travel to doctors, etc. desperately trying to get well!!) I, like most other Lyme Disease patients, have lost any "saved money", savings accounts, retirement accounts, etc in the desperate fight to get better. Many patients like myself have limited funds and to answer the questions that I am sometimes asked- no I do not know where the resources that I am going to need for today and the rest of this week let alone the months and years ahead (until I am able to work full time again) will come from. I am a christian who is madly in love with her savior and have learned to trust that He will always provide for me - each step of this journey.

Lyme Disease patients worry about things that most people don't think about. I will debate for hours and hours each week on which supplement or antibiotic I should do "without" due to money. We have concerns and stresses that are impossible to explain. We have sold everything we can think of, have had to humble ourselves to ask for money and are embarrassed to admit we have done so, and have asked every family member, friend, and stranger for help. In the process most of our relatives and friends have depleted their savings accounts and bank accounts to help us. Let me say what most Lyme Disease patients are thinking about all of the time but are ashamed to admit:
We don't care about the battles of politics and insurance. We don't care about "which treatment" is supposedly the best. We don't care about "this or that". What we do care about is fighting for our lives and our health and most of us are so scared that we can never get better because we do not have financial ability to do so.
And I think it takes absolutely no explanation about why Lyme Disease patients also struggle emotionally. The rigor of this fight takes a courage that I never knew before. It takes bravery to face what is realistically going on in your body and the courage to fight for hope despite the odds. It takes courage to look around and realize that your life has been crushed, accept the loneliness of "friends" walking away, and to come to terms with giving up a job that you loved and to recognize that you might never be able to return to it, to find joy despite the pain, to hold on to Hope when it seems so dark, and to believe (against what you have been told) that you can fight this silent and vicious killer. While there are days of tears and darkness Lyme Disease can not silence love and that is what each and every person fighting Lyme is holding onto.
May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month. Will you please spread the word about this disease and give a BIG hug to those you know who are fighting it? Your kindness in recognizing and spreading the word will touch the hearts of ALL who fight each day.
I, like every "lymie" I know, longs to see a world where "Lyme Disease" are words that are understood by the medical community along with friends and family understanding it. We long to see knowledge that is spread so that someday we will have a cure so that no one else has to live this fight. Thank you so much for spreading the word during this month.

In October 2016 I shared with my instagram community what my "daily and weekly life" briefly look like in relation to my health journey. The two things that were the most shocking for most people was that I spend nearly $2500 dollars daily in my fight for my health and that I take 225 supplements each day (you can read the entire post HERE). As I have continued to heal some of these numbers have changed and morphed in the natural process of healing. Today though I wanted to share 10 of the most affordable and helpful supplements that I used to take (and some I still take) for my gut that I have found the cheapest on Amazon in hopes that it may help other Lymies who are fighting for their health and looking for the most affordable products.

As a quick background due to my specific issues with Lyme there are many times that a variety of different companies have the same product but I have to use a quality rich supplement from a specific company due to manufacturing. I hope that these help! Here in no particular order are my top supplements that I used to use or still use everyday:
Saccharomyces Boulardi + MOS (or "myce" as we have affectionately nicknamed it around our household) plays a HUGE part in my daily regime and my healing. Under the care of my doctors orders I take very large quantities of this and it has been a huge help for me - especially when I am in the midst of difficult and intense treatment rounds. I can't recommend it enough- especially for those of you who like me are on intensive and high med regimes.
According to studies Saccharomyces Boulardi + MOS is helpful for the entire digestive track, general intestinal health, helps in nutrient absorption, helps with diarrhea, helps the immune system, and helps to combat the bad bacteria while restoring the good. As with all of my supplements I did a ton of research on this and was amazed at how much this probiotic is known as the "king" of all probiotics for all of its health benefits. I also found that Jarrow Probiotics combination is thought to be the "best on the market" and "most potent" so that is why I use this particular brand.
Saccharomyces Boulardi + MOS is a bit expensive and I have found it for the cheapest on Amazon. The price seems to fluctuate on Amazon up to $35 for a large bottle but I have gotten it for as little as $26. I simply check every single day to see the price and order it at the cheapest times. You can find Saccharomyces Boulardi + MOS on Amazon by clicking HERE.
It is so important to have a digestive enzyme as part of each meal and after trying nearly 50 different ones over the last several years I have been extremely pleased with Biogest by Thorne Research. Biogest is a blend of HCI (hydrochloric acid), pepsin, pancreatin, and ox bile. This combination makes it helpful to promote the digestion of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats.
One of the things that I love about Thorne Research, Inc. is that they do not make any products that contain Genetically Modified Organisms. Unfortunately (and what a lot of people don't realize) is that many digestive enzymes are filled with GMO's and this can be detrimental in the body- especially in fighting Lyme Disease.
Ginger Root is one of my favorite supplements for my gut as it has so many different benefits. Scientific studies have shown that ginger helps to maintain healthy gut flora, helps to aid digestion, and can help calm and soothe the digestive track. In addition to this some studies show that ginger can help balance immune response and even help cardiovascular function. There are tons of amazing benefits of ginger and last year I wrote about 15 Amazing benefits of Ginger, which you can find HERE if you would like to learn more.
After researching through different brands I ended up choosing the Ginger Root from NOW. I was impressed with the manufacturing and the price (less than $6 a bottle!) is hard to beat. You can find it on Amazon by clicking HERE.
4. Slippery Elm
Slippery Elm is another product from NOW that I used to use that was hugely beneficial in my healing process. Slippery Elm has been used an herbal remedy since the 19th century and is known to help a number of digestive issues. One of the unique things about Slippery Elm is that it contains mucilage, which is a substance that becomes a slick gel when it is mixed with water, which in turn coats and soothes the mouth, throat, stomach, and intestines over time. Slippery Elm also comes in powder form (which I took for many months while I was working up to the capsules) and has several amazing benefits.
Slippery Elm is known to help the digestive track and those that suffer with IBS, helps to aid in weight loss, and some scientific studies are showing that it can help Psoriasis and Breast Cancer. More research is being done but it is amazing to think about all that this can help in our bodies. Slippery Elm is another wonderful supplement that is cheap (less than $5 on Amazon) and can be found HERE!
5. George's Aloe Vera Supplement
I have shared many times how beneficial and important Aloe Vera has been in my healing journey. I rotate the different brands of Aloe that I use throughout the year (for additional health benefits), but George's Aloe Vera Supplement is one that I used consistently. There are many reasons for this. First, the taste is the easiest to swallow and drink and it allow me to use the necessary dose that I needed. Second, it is free of preservatives and additives which is really important to me. Finally, I can personally attest that it has helped my gut in the healing process.
Aloe Vera juice contains a wealth of nutrients and vitamins and minerals. In addition to this it helps to provide antioxidants, and helps support circulation in the body. Studies have shown that Aloe Vera juice helps to aid digestion and ease stomach aches. In addition it helps to increase the alkalization in the body. It helps to encourage a healthy stomach lining and some studies have also shown that it helps to boost the immune system.
If you read my post on detox baths than you know that for a time I used to put aloe vera in my detox bath regime. I don't currently do this but it does make the skin incredibly soft and also helps and aids in healing. (You can read more about detox baths HERE.)
George's Aloe Vera Supplement can be found in your local health food store and sometimes I have found it cheaper there but other times I find it cheaper on Amazon. I buy a large bottle that lasts for a bit (and I even have traveled with a smaller version!). If you are interested in purchasing it on Amazon it can be found HERE!
6. Licorice
Licorice is a key component for Lyme Disease patients for a number of different things, including a helpful supplement for the gut. The herb's key therapeutic compound, glycyrrhizin, helps to give the body lots of different beneficial effects for the body, including helping to heal the digestive system and helps to heal ulcers. In addition Licorice helps to lower stomach acid levels, relieve indigestion and heartburn and can help with inflammation and spasms in the digestive tract. Licorice has additional health benefits beyond the gut as it is beneficial for the liver, helps to lower cholesterol levels, helps lessen the pain and fatigue of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, and can even help with PMS symptoms.
At this current moment I am not taking it anymore due to the healing I have gained. I love when a supplement is helpful and healing for my gut, but also helps my body in other areas! On Amazon it retails for under $11. You can find it on Amazon by clicking HERE.
7. Bromelain
Bromelain is another one of those amazing supplements that is awesome for the gut but also has tons of other medicinal properties. Bromelain is a mixture of enzymes that is found in pineapples that helps to digest protein. It has been used for centuries throughout the world to help treat indigestion and reduce inflammation. Interestingly enough the German Commission approved Bromelain to treat swelling and inflammation after surgery, particularly sinus surgery!
In addition to the amazing health benefits it has for the entire body, Bromelain has scientifically been shown to help heal issues in the gastrointestinal tract including IBD, Ulcertaive Colotis, Colon Cancer, Chron's Disease, Dyspepsia, and Constipation.
If you are like me and enjoy pineapple than you probably are getting some of the amazing benefits already. But if you struggle to eat it everyday, then you might benefit as I do from the supplement. There are lots of different companies that make Bromelain, but like many other supplements they have added ingredients. This version from NOW is one of the only ones that has only Bromelain in the ingredients.
The price fluctuates mildly on Amazon but stays under $20. You can purchase it on Amazon by clicking HERE.
8. Apple Cider Vinegar
I have written several times here on the blog about the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar (and 17 ways to use Apple Cider Vinegar) I won't bore you with repeating myself but I am definitely a huge believer in the power of this product. I can't recommend enough Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and definitely encourage you to use that brand specifically.
I also use this as part of my detox bath regime too!
On the flip side though after using it and drinking it daily for nearly four years I struggle sometimes to deal with the taste so recently I have been substituting some of the amount my doctor has me taking with the Apple Cider Vinegar Capsules by NOW:
A couple of years ago, when I was really struggling and completely bed ridden (you can read more of this portion of my story in the Notes from the Porch updates section HERE) I used peppermint oil like it was going out of style. As I have continued to heal I don't use it as frequently, but it is still apart of my treatment regime everyday and I use it in my detox baths.
Peppermint Oil has been used for thousands of years- even dating back to Egyptian time- and has tons of healing properties. Peppermint Oil helps to reduce stomach aches, sooth the digestive system, and even has antimicrobial properties. In addition Peppermint Oil helps to relieve headaches, boost energy, and relieve tight muscles among other things.
I have tried several different manufacturers of peppermint oil and while I used Young Living's Peppermint Oil for a couple of years, this past year I discovered NOW's Organic Peppermint Oil and have been incredibly impressed. For those of you that can't afford to purchase Young Living Oils (like myself) I am so excited to share about this because it is an easy and affordable option and is certified organic. I would never criticize another helpful brand, but this for me has been incredibly helpful and I love it!
It costs about $12 on Amazon and you can it HERE.
Honorable Mentions:
2. Ideal Bowel Support
Ideal Bowel Support from Jarrow Formulas is something that I added in a couple of years ago and I have really appreciated it -especially when I am taking certain oral meds. In short, it is a probiotic that helps to reduce bloating, gas, and intestinal discomfort.
Ideal Bowel Support contains a clinically-documented strain, L. plantarum299v that resists stomach acid and bile salts. This mixture is a huge help for those struggling with intestinal discomfort. This is a supplement that I take that I see as an "aid" more than an overall healing help. If anyone has research that differs from this I would love to know it as I haven't been able to find any, but I do know it helps me in the day-to-day.

To be frank, I definitely feel the Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar is the best option, but sometimes you have to do what you can do to get in what you need and so this product by NOW might be the best option.
Both are affordable and Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar can be purchased on Amazon by clicking HERE but I have found it in my local grocery store for cheaper (and for a larger bottle!). The NOW Apple Cider Vinegar caps can be cheaply found on Amazon for about $8 by clicking HERE.
Also for Lymies- a side note- I continue to use the Bragg's Organic Apple Cider Vinegar in all of my detox baths that I take due to the help in getting rid of toxins. If you are interested in finding out more about what I have shared about detox baths you can do so HERE.
