"Freedom is never free."
I received this flag back in 2015 from a dear soldier that I was connected with through the Adopt-a-Platoon program. I have literally carried it with me throughout my health journey as it has soberly and humbly reminded me of the heroes that are tirelessly fighting for our country and those that have sacrificed so much.
I have been a part of the Adopt-a-Platoon family since 2005 and in these 16 years I have been humbled by the extreme sacrifice that so many make for the sake of our freedom. Freedom is never free and comes with a price that is often the greatest sacrifice.
With each soldier I have been honored to connect with I am reminded of how much our military does for our country, for our freedom, and for countless places around the world.
"M", thank you again for changing my life and for this tangible reminder of sacrificial freedom with this honor of this flag that flew on the other side of the world. It is a priceless gift that I will always treasure.
To all of the 49 soldiers (and their families) that I have met through AAP you know who you are and you have my gratitude & humble thanks. For so many of my former students, their families and my sweet friends who sacrifice so much as their loved ones have served and continue to serve our country, we celebrate you and the freedom that you help ensure for our country today, tomorrow, and every day.
Thank you so much. On this memorial day and everyday, we are speechless with gratitude.

Happy Saturday friends! I have been thinking so much lately about how despite all of the problems that we have here in our country we also have SO much to be incredibly grateful for! I hope that this weekend is a time for you to rest, rejuvenate, and be refreshed as you spend time with friends and family. To all of those who have served and are serving our country we are incredible grateful for you and your families sacrifice.
With this weekend there are often lots of sales on items and I wanted to share today a few of my favorite travel and outdoor summer items that are currently on sale! I hope that this helps you if you are looking for some items!
First, Yesterday on the blog I shared all about my favorite hiking boot which is these Merrell Boots. They are currently on sale and you can find them by clicking HERE!
Second, this Lightweight Double Camping Hammock is 60% off and can be found HERE for less than $12! This hammock is great for the summer in general but is extremely lightweight (less than 2 pounds!) and you could take it with you when you are hiking this summer. For those of us that are tall it is actually a great length (9.8 x 6.6 feet) and holds up to 400 pounds. It is backed with AmazonBasics and comes with a 1 year warranty! There are a variety of different colors to choose from and you can find it HERE!
Third, my favorite carry on suitcase EVER, the Delsey Paris Luggage Catelet Hard Carry on is on sale this weekend! I have gone into depth about why I love this carry on so much HERE but it is honestly worth the investment and both colors (the white and the dark chocolate brown) are both on sale. Run and go get it now. You will be so glad that you invested in this piece. I know that I almost had a heart attack when I first saw the price, but it has been one of the best investments that I have ever made on luggage for all that I travel. I am saving my pennies for the larger luggage pieces (which are also on sale), but I can speak to this carry on and it is great. You can find it HERE!
This felt organizer (I chose the beige color so that it will go with any of my purses!) comes in 11 different colors (you can find it HERE). I love that I can easily switch purses now just by taking this out and changing it from one purse to another. SO simple and easy! Even if you don't travel a lot you will love it for daily life (for size reference I chose a medium)! For traveling mine is always loaded up with tons of items and it is the easiest trip in the airports because of how organized it kept things in my purse! If you are interested in it you can find it HERE!

Fourth, my favorite purse organizer is currently on sale for 20% off! I have shared this before on the blog I was also getting tired of needing to search my purse for items and feeling desperate to organize my purse- not just for trips but in general. hahaha! This honestly has been something that I have started talking about non-stop and telling everyone about. Just the other day I was telling two friends that they needed to get one! It is life-changing! Hahaha!

Fifth, These TKEES Sandals... I wear them all the time y'all. I fell in love with these sandals last summer and love the simplicity and yet the "put together" look of these leather sandals. They are so incredibly comfortable and you can find them HERE! I chose the Coco Butter color, but there are a number of different options and some are 1/2 price this weekend (making them less than $25!) Find them HERE!
Sixth, my favorite eye mask for sleeping is currently on sale for 15% off. This is a great eye mask for sleeping or for traveling! You can find it HERE!

Several years ago, as I prepared to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday I realized that I was embarrassed to admit that I didn't know the history behind the particular day. So I decided to look it up and learn about it. As many of you know, Memorial Day is a patriotic holiday that is intended to honor the Americans who have protected our country throughout generations. Memorial Day started as a way to remember those who had died in the Civil War. At this time it was called "Decoration Day, and was first strted in Carbondale, Illinois in 1866. Over the decades celebrations spread to different towns and cities across the United States, and eventually in 1971 it became a formal national holiday.
If you visit a grave site, you may see people placing coins on top of a grave. Each coin symbolizes a different thing. Pennies mean that you stopped by the grave site, dimes symbolize serving with the deceased and quarters mean that you witnessed the deceased death.

Having lived in different parts of the country, it is interesting to me how different areas celebrate this holiday. For example, when I lived in DC there was always a service held at Arlington Cemetery and always different concert options, while in NYC there are parades. Texas, Alabama, and Virginia also celebrate Confederate Memorial Day which honors Confederate soldiers. Different sections of the country offer all different ways to celebrate and last week I shared about different Memorial Day activities offered around the Lake Champlain area. No matter what you do to celebrate on Memorial Day don't forget to stop at 3pm to remember the deceased. Under an act signed by President Clinton in 2000, Americans are supposed to stop and remember the deceased at that time.
I am so grateful to live in a country that takes time to honor the men and women who have served and our serving our country and their families. To all of our veterans and active military members and their families and loved ones: I am forever grateful for your service and sacrifice today and everyday. May you experience the gratitude our nation feels on this Memorial Day and beyond.

Since I was a little girl I have always loved fashion, dressing up, and jewelry. I am truly a girly-girl at heart. Over the last couple of years though as my health declined fashion was often the last thing that was on my mind. Making it through each day - often in the comfiest clothes that I could find was an accomplishment. My body also went through incredible changes due to the nature of this fight (some of which I talked about here) and I was embarrassed to have to work through accepting that fashion was going to look a lot different on me than it used to and on the models that I see in all of the magazines (and even some blogs). But as time has continued, I have seen healing milestones happening on this journey, and I have come to respect and love my body in a whole new way for all that it has done in these past four years, I started dreaming about the joy of being a girl again and the fun of fashion.
I pondered how to incorporate this on my blog and prayed about how this would fit with my blogs themes and decided that it would be fun to start doing a Friday Fashion post each week. Currently I don't routinely write on Fridays so this was a perfect fit into my blog schedule. If you are curious about my blog schedule it is simply:
Mondays- I talk about Singleness/Relationships
Tuesdays- Travel
Wednesdays- Writing, Books or Personal Updates
Thursdays- Health Tips
Fridays- Fashion
Saturdays- Artistic Creations/Etsy Shop
While sometimes things morph a little bit this was a schedule that I came up with in the summer of 2015 and it has worked well for me and the blog. *smiles* So welcome to my first Friday Fashion Post! Today I am sharing some fun and pretty memorial day fashion inspiration! Can't wait to continue to explore the fun of beauty and fashion with y'all on Fridays!!
Caitlin (pictured above), from Southern Curls & Pearls is simply so cute in all of her outfits, but this July 4th outfit that she shared last summer was one of her cutest! (You can read her post HERE which will share all of the details of this outfit!)
I love the pop of gold with this outfit! It adds a fun and sparkling addition to this traditional color scheme!
I saw these fun and cute tanks on Etsy that would be cute with a pair of shorts or jeans for the weekend. I love that both of these would also be adorable for July 4th!
These shorts are so cute and fun!
If you are looking for some fun and beautiful jewelry to compliment any outfit that you are planning to wear throughout the weekend and this summer - check out my Chloe & Isabel shop by clicking HERE! Throughout the weekend I am having a buy 2 get 1 free sale!! Check it out as this sale is amazing and is the perfect time to pick up beautiful pieces (that come with a life-time guarantee!!) for this memorial day and summer season!
I hope that y'all have a wonderful Friday and weekend remembering those who have lost their lives serving our country and the brave men and women who continue to give so much to our country and the world. Happy Friday y'all!
