how to make nature part of your routine

November 23, 2025

There is a lot that spending time in nature can do for you. For one thing, fresh air is always beneficial, and you will discover that simply getting out into nature more often is worthwhile. It is also true that spending time in nature has the ability to relax and calm you, and it is known to be beneficial to the nervous system. If you suffer from anxiety or something similar, this could be something to think about because it is a great way to clear your mind.

Invest in a bike
It is much easier to observe more of the natural world around your home if you have some mode of transport, and the type of transportation you might want to consider purchasing is probably something like a bike. If you treat yourself to one of the top electric bikes, you will discover that you can easily climb hills and get to interesting nature spots that you would not be able to reach otherwise. That means you'll have more time to spend in nature, so it's worth considering acquiring a bike this year. You could even pack a few essentials in a waterproof duffel bag, especially if you plan to cycle somewhere with a picnic spot or a scenic viewpoint. Having something durable and weatherproof will keep your belongings dry, which is particularly useful if you’re cycling through unpredictable weather.

Hiking
Alternatively, if you want to be truly healthy this year, you could try walking everywhere. The great thing about hiking is that it will help you get in shape while also allowing you to discover some of the beautiful spots in your area. Hiking is a great way to go outside, and it's something you might want to consider doing this year if that seems like something you need. Don’t forget to take your camera to capture those beautiful moments of peace and serenity. Whether you’re walking a coastal path, forest trail, or hillside route, you’ll feel the difference in your physical and mental wellbeing as you make hiking a more regular habit.

Give camping a whirl
While camping is not for everyone, most people will find it to be a lot of fun, and if nothing else, it is a wonderful opportunity to attempt to enjoy the outdoors a little more. The beautiful thing about camping is that you can do it pretty much anywhere there is a reasonable amount of flat land (laws and local restrictions allowed), and it is a great way to truly feel like you are a part of the natural environment. You can take your family, go with friends, or even try a solo camping trip to disconnect from distractions. If you're feeling particularly disconnected from the natural world right now, this could be a nice way to reconnect. Even spending one night under the stars can remind you how peaceful nature can be when you slow down.

Take on a new sport
Of course, being outside in nature isn't always like that. Sometimes it's as simple as excelling in a sport and participating in it on a regular basis. If you want to spend more time outside in general, picking up a new sport might be a fun way to do it while meeting new people. You could try tennis, running, kayaking, paddleboarding, or even something casual like frisbee at the park. As long as you’re moving your body outdoors, you’ll still experience the benefits.
