I have mentioned many times here on the blog that I pray for my future husband on a regular basis. I try to spend time each day praying for him, knowing that when I am married to him that I will want to make prayer a regular part of my life with my husband and for my husband. One of the things that I get asked repeatedly is what exactly I pray for my future husband so I have shared in the past a post on 10 Things to Pray for Your (Future) Husband which can be found HERE. I also have shared 10 Things I Pray for Myself as a (Future) Wife which can be found HERE.
Today I wanted to share 10 more things that you can pray for your (future) husband. If you are married I highly encourage you to pray for your husband and if you are single or engaged, I encourage you to start praying for your future husband starting now!
(One) I pray that my future husband would have a hunger for God's word, a passion to know Christ above anything and anyone else.
(Two) I pray that my future husband would have big and daring dreams to change the world for Christ. I pray that he will not be content to just accept the world the way that it is, but have a passion for a calling that is uniquely His.
(Three) I pray that my future husband would dream big dreams and attempt big things for God, but also have the unique understanding on how to love the people that are placed in front of him. That he would have a genuine understanding of Mother Theresa saying, "Want to change the world? Go home and love your family".
(Four) I pray that my husband would be filled with joy. I pray that he would know the love of Christ so intimately and that he is filled with strength and dignity so that he can laugh at the days to come (Proverbs 31:25) because his ultimate source of peace is found solely in God.
(Five) I pray that my future husband is delivered from any trials that he is currently going through. I pray that the Lord would write a redemptive story out of any circumstance that he is going through.
(Six) I pray that my husband would have great discernment that comes from knowing Jesus Christ. I pray that he would consult God before anything and anyone else and pray for wisdom for each and every decision that he is facing whether it be small or big.
(Seven) I pray that even now the Lord is developing him to be an excellent father to our future children. I pray that he would have a heart for raising up men and women who love the Lord more than anything else, that he would develop patience and laughter, and that he would have a heart for the orphan.
(Eight) I pray that my husband would be protected... protected physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
(Nine) I pray that even now the Lord would be preparing his heart for me alone. That our hearts would be joined together by God, the tapestry for this being woven right now as we pray and wait for each other.
(Ten) I pray that my future husband would be a man of prayer. I pray that this will be a hallmark and benchmark of his life, understanding the importance and necessity of prayer.
Are there any specific prayers that you pray for your future spouse? I would love to hear what things you pray for!

Several years ago I shared here on the blog that I pray for my future husband on a regular basis. I started this decades ago because even though I don't know when I will marry I do know that when I am married I will want prayer to be a regular part of my life with my husband and for my husband so I have tried to develop this area of my prayer life as a single gal. I was sharing with a friend just a couple of weeks ago that as of Saturday I will have prayed every single day for my husband for 24 years. To be honest at the beginning I didn't even know what to pray, but as the months and years have passed I have found myself going back to scripture to pray for him each day. I am not an expert, and am learning each and every day how to do this.
One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is what exactly I am praying for my future husband or what people who are married can pray for their spouses. I wanted to share today just a few of the things that I pray for him (in no particular order). If you are married I highly encourage you to pray for your husband and if you are single or engaged, I encourage you to start praying for your future husband starting now! I hope that these ten things are a helpful starting point for you!

1. I pray that if he does not know the Lord that he would surrender his life to the Lord and if he does know the Lord as his personal savior that he would grow in his relationship with the Lord daily.(John 3:16)
2. I pray that I would begin to even now prepare to be a good wife for my husband and would treat him with loving actions- in my words and deeds, and that I would give him the respect, love, and graciousness that is due to him everyday.(Proverbs 31:10-31) (If you are looking for specific things I pray for myself as a wife you can check out my post entitled, 10 Things to Pray for Myself as a (Future) Wife which you can find HERE or my post from last year, 10 MORE things to pray for myself as a future wife which you can find HERE. )
3. I pray that his self-image and identity would be found in Christ alone and I also pray for the work that he does. (This may seem strange to tie these two together but I have know so many men that struggle with making work their identity.)
4. I pray that he would remain pure and would be free from any past decisions. (Isaiah 43:18-19) I also pray that he would be free from temptation (current and in the future). (Romans 12:9)
5. I pray that he would be obedient to the ways of the Lord and that he would follow the Lord in all of his ways. (Psalm 25:4,5)
6. I pray that he would be set free from fears that he may have: of his career, future, present, past, etc. I pray that he would find deliverance from his fears in the Lord's love. (I John 4:18)
7. I pray that his heart would be sensitive to the things of the Lord and that his talk would reflect his heart. (Proverbs 4:23 and Psalms 34:12-13)I pray that he would know his purpose clearly and where the Lord is calling him. (Psalm 20:4)
8. I pray that he would have good health. (3 John 1:2)
9. I pray that the Lord would comfort him and sustain him during any trials that he is dealing with currently. (Psalm 46:1)
10. I pray that the Lord would bless him with amazing godly friends. I pray that he will also have good relationships with everyone that is in his life.
If you are looking for some additional thoughts you can find my post, I also have shared 10 More Things to Pray for Your Future Husband which can be found HERE! These kiddos above{aka my parents} are celebrating their 48th wedding anniversary today. In today's society that would be classified as amazing, but to this single gal it is not only amazing, it is inspirational, entirely possible, and beautiful to have witnessed such an amazing love story growing up. In honor of their anniversary four years ago I shared a post entitled "44 tips to have a happy marriage for 44 years" that has remained one of my most popular posts. Today, in honor of their anniversary I wanted to re-share these 44 tips with you about having a marriage that will not only go the distance, but will be a beautiful story that I have learned from them. |
1. Have a marriage centered on Jesus.
2. Laugh. A lot.
3. Realize what is important and let everything else go.
4. If your marriage is in trouble seek help.
5. Go on dates - at least once a week. (Don't have money for a date? My parents don't either and are constantly being creative with what to do. Look for free events in your area (i.e.- events at a local college, high school, church, etc.), pack a picnic lunch or dinner, go for a walk in a new park that you have not explored, etc.)
6. Be creative.
7. Be intentional.
9. Fight fairly (stick to the subject at hand).
11. Put the other person first.
12. Always remember that life is found in the little moments.
13. Never give your spouse the chance to wonder if you are cheating.
14. Do not ever let pornography become a substance in your house.
15. Never let children divide you and never speak ill of your spouse to your children.
16. Never let the "D" word (divorce) be uttered. The minute that you allow that you start down a road that you do not want to go on.
17. Pray together.
18. Go to church together.
19. Have Godly friends who you can encourage you along the way.
