10 Encouraging Bible Verses for Single Women

November 20, 2022

Hello sweet friends! I hope that you had a wonderful weekend. Today I wanted to share with y'all ten of my favorite Bible verses that have brought so much comfort, joy, strength, and peace to me during this single season. I hope it encourages you or someone you know who is single!

1. Psalm 68:6 for loneliness
Psalm 68:6 states, "He sets the lonely in families...". This beautiful promise has meant so much to me in this single journey. As a woman who longs for a husband and to be a mama I often cling to this verse. But the beautiful thing about this verse is that it is not just a promise for the future, but for the present. Loneliness is one of the most difficult parts about being single but as I ask the Lord to show me who He has put in my path to love my focus goes off of me and onto those around me who desperately want and need God's love. This creates a whole different family- a family born of out love and this is a blessing that I thank the Lord for each day.

The topic of loneliness is a deep ache for many singles, myself included which I wrote a little more about HERE in my post, Loneliness in the Singe Journey. (Looking for additional scripture verses on the topic of loneliness? I have found great comfort in Psalm 68:7-10 also!)

2. Song of Songs 1:15 for the times when I don't feel pretty
Song of Songs 1:15 states, "How beautiful you are my darling! Oh how beautiful!" As a single gal I truly believe that Satan gets a lot of delight about how many single ladies feel that the reason that they don't have a boyfriend/fiance'/husband is because of their physical appearance. It is simply not true. Scripture clearly states that the Lord created us and each of us in different ways are pretty.

The sensitive subject of feeling unbeautiful is a delicate part of a woman's heart which I wrote a little more about HERE in my post, feeling unbeautiful. (Looking for additional scripture verses on the topic of feeling unbeautiful? I have found great comfort in Psalm 139:14 and Proverbs 31:30.)

3. Psalm 147:3 for broken hearts
Psalm 147:3 states, He heals the brokenhearted…” In the single journey many ladies have had broken hearts (or experienced brokenness), but the beautiful thing with Jesus is that He heals the brokenhearted. This precious scripture verse has a wealth of wisdom in it promising healing and hope for the future. The beautiful thing about the Lord is that our stories do not end with brokenness when we allow the Lord to work in our hearts. (Looking for additional scripture verses on the topic of feeling brokenness? One of my favorite stories for this topic is the Woman at the Well from John 4.)

4. Psalm 42:11 for disappointment
Psalm 42:11 states, Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. As a single woman it can be easy to get caught up in "disappointment" with how we hoped a situation might work out or how something might develop with someone. This beautiful verse speaks to the truth of our hope being in God not in a situation or a person. God can never disappoint us.

The tender subject of feeling disappointed is an unfortunate part of many singles experiences which I wrote a little more about HERE in my post, disappointment in the single journey. (Looking for additional scripture verses on the topic of disappointment? One of my favorite things to do is to meditate on scripture that speaks about Hope, specifically, Romans 5:5.)

5. I Peter 2:4 for rejection
I Peter 2:4 states, "As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious...". As single women we can sometimes feel that we have been rejected from the thing that we desire most. Any time that you feel rejected cling to the truth of I Peter 2:4. While men may reject us, God will never reject us. What a beautiful truth to know that we have a High Priest who can empathize and sympathize with us because He experienced everything we have but what a glorious promise to know that He will never reject us.

The hurt and the pain of rejection is a sad and unfortunate part of many singles experiences which I wrote a little bit more about HERE in my post rejection in the single journey. (Looking for additional scripture verses on the topic of rejection? One of my favorites is Psalm 94:14.)

6. Galatians 6:4 for comparing/envying others.
Galatians 6:4 states, "...but don't compare yourselves to others...". It can be so easy as a single gal to observe someone elses life and compare ourselves to them. Ladies, I will just say it frankly. The comparison trap is not Godly. Christ has a purpose that is uniquely for you and a journey that He is mapping out for you. Don't envy someone else's life or the way that they are engaged or dating a wonderful man. Focus on the Lord. NOT on someone else. This will not only save you a lot of heartbreak but also will keep you from missing the amazing blessings that the Lord has put into your life.

Comparison and Envy can rob you of missing the abundant blessings that God has given you which I write a little bit more about HERE in my post 5 ways to stop the comparison game and love your life. (Looking for additional scripture verses on the topic of comparison/envying others? Check out 2 Corinthians 10:12.)

7. Psalm 6:8 for weeping
Psalm 6:8 states, "...for the Lord has heard my weeping." I love how scripture speaks straight to our hearts. There are times where there might be tears that fall gently but on the single journey there can also be a lot of times where weeping can occur. I love Psalm 6:8 and how it speaks straight to the heart. The Lord hears our weeping friends. He is close to the brokenhearted. Take heart. You are not alone. He hears your cries.

The tender times of weeping is an unfortunate part of many singles experiences which I wrote a little more about HERE in my post, weeping in the single journey.  (Looking for additional scripture verses on the topic of weeping? One of my favorite chapters of the Bible is the story of Hannah from I Samuel.)

8. Proverbs 12:18 for the lack of understanding.
Proverbs 12:18 states, There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts….”. Sometimes on this journey it can seem that there are many who just do not understand the pain and loneliness of singleness. Unfortunately many times this can come from other Christians. In one of my first posts I ever wrote about singleness I shared the story of a co-worker who informed me that I should attend a church "for people like me". It was truly hurtful and unfortunately those types of situations and well-meaning comments alike can bruise the tender heart of those who are single and long to be married. I find great comfort that in these types of situations I have the opportunity to speak of the Lord's unique and tender love that only comes in "waiting seasons". No, not everyone is single and waiting to be married, but lots of people are waiting for something.

There is courage and hope in the questions of waiting that we as single women can uniquely speak to. I wrote a little bit more HERE in my post, lack of understanding in the single journey on this tender topic. (Looking for additional scripture verses on the topic of "lack of understanding"? Proverbs 18:21 has been challenging and encouraging all at the same time!)

9. Psalm 121:5 for the times that you travel alone
Psalm 121:5 states, "The Lord watches over you..." As a single lady I have done a lot of traveling alone I have always found great comfort in Psalm 121:5. Whether it is simple trips around town or long trips (even internationally) I find great comfort that the Lord's protection and hand is covering me through this beautiful verse.

I wrote a little bit more HERE, in my post, the single journey and travel on this topic. (Looking for additional scripture verses on the topic of traveling alone? Psalm 121 (the entire chapter) has been a beautiful chapter to memorize filled with great promise and truth on this subject!)

10. Job 42:12 for hope for the future
Job 42:12 states, The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the earlier years.” This beautiful promise and truth has spoken to my little heart more than words could ever adequately express. I love that the Lord has given us this promise and that we can take heart in the fact that the blessing sometimes comes later on in life. Hold on to this beautiful hope friends.

I wrote a little bit more HERE, in my post, hope for the future in the single journey on this topic. (Looking for additional scripture verses on the topic of hope for the future? Read through the book of Job... it will shout to you when you are hurting!)
