Top Exercise Mistakes to Avoid

February 9, 2023

 caravan sonnet

Whether it is to change the way you look, improve your mental health, or just to become a better version of yourself, exercise is an important part of having a healthy lifestyle that many people include in their daily schedules. However, there are several mistakes that a lot of people still make.

Lack of recovery time

When exercising or going to the gym, most people will have a set amount of days where they will exercise and then other days that are designated rest days. This is to allow your body to recover, especially if you are pushing your boundaries. Some people ignore this crucial part of exercising and will instead try to push past the pain and fatigue. This is not recommended as you risk burnout and injury. Make sure if you are exercising a lot, that you give yourself ample time to recover too.

Thinking that exercise will solve everything

When you base any physical goals on exercise alone, this only leads to overexercising and neglecting a whole range of other things. Exercise should be used in combination with sleep, recovery, food, mental health, and much more. This is important if you want the exercise to have the desired effect. If you are counting on other things, just as a diet or medication, like those from Recovery Delivered, they can only be effective if you lead a healthy lifestyle.

Lifting too heavy

For many people lifting heavy weights is a goal, and chasing the achievement of hitting personal bests can become addictive. This is all fine to do, providing that you have been trained correctly and have a solid knowledge of lifting weights. Mistakes happen when you are not well informed and lift too heavy, too soon. So, if you are planning on lifting heavy weights, make sure that you seek some help and guidance from an experienced person before you overdo it and leave yourself with a long painful recovery.

Doing the wrong type of cardio for you

A form of exercise that is extremely common, yet also disliked by many is running. A lot of people think that running is the best and sometimes the only form of cardio available, and ends up discouraging many people due to various health conditions. But in fact, there are many other ways in which you can do cardio, most surprisingly by just walking on an incline. Not only is this just as effective as running, but you are much less likely to injure yourself.

Not doing the exercise properly

If you start exercising with weights or moving your body in new ways that you haven’t before, you should ensure that you know what you are doing and the implications of doing the exercises incorrectly. If you don’t take time to learn how to exercise properly, then you are opening yourself up to becoming injured due to the lack of knowledge you have surrounding the subject.

In conclusion, if you regularly exercise or are planning to start exercising more, make sure that you avoid these mistakes.

Prepare Your Property For Letting

 Letting a property out is a great option for a second income. However, you need to approach this possibility the right way. Here are the key options that we recommend you explore.

Clean It Up

One of the first things you should be doing when you decide to let out your property is clean it. A thorough clean is in order to ensure it looks brand new for your new occupants. You will also need to ensure you get rid of all your own belongings if you have been living in the property. A deep clean of your home means getting into every corner and removing dust, dirt, and debris that may have built up over time.

You should also pay close attention to the floors, people don’t want to move into a home with dirty flooring. This is an occupational hazard as people walk on the floor everyday so they are bound to get slightly dirty. If you have hardwood flooring then you can invest in some floor wax to make it look shiny and new again. Take a look at the best floor buffer to get this job done and out of the way.

Ensure It Is Safe And Sound

Arguably one of the biggest risks for a new landlord is going to be legal issues. You need to make sure that you are not leaving yourself vulnerable to legal issues here. One of the ways that you can do this is by consulting with a legal advisor. You might also want to consider checking the property regularly yourself or hiring someone to do it for you. By taking this step, you can avoid the damage and danger that comes from a legal dispute with a tenant.

Take An Inventory

Next, you should make sure that you are taking an inventory of everything that is included in your property. This could include everything from the furniture that you are leaving for tenants to use to white goods. By taking an inventory you can note down the state of items like this and ensure that you don’t have to worry about them being damaged while a tenant is staying on your property. A full inventory will provide you with the complete peace of mind you need as a new landlord.

Formulate A Tenancy Agreement

Finally, you need to make sure that you are formulating the right tenancy agreement before you decide to let your property out. A clear tenancy agreement will protect your assets and ensure that you are not at risk of a significant financial loss by letting out your property. This can be an issue for landlords who do not take the right legal steps. There are lots of things that can be included in your tenancy agreement. Some of these will be standard requirements while others will be more unique to your property.

We hope you found this article helpful and that it gave you some useful ideas on how you can prepare your property for the letting market.

Four Things You Need BEFORE Starting A Business

February 8, 2023

 There’s no denying that the idea of running your own business is an attractive one. After all, it allows you to experience true professional freedom - you can decide when to start work, what your day-to-day schedule looks like, and even who you work with.

However, it's also not easy. You’re surrounded by competition at each corner, and you have to ensure you stay afloat no matter where the changing tides take you.

One way in which you can make running a business a little easier, however, is simply by being prepared.

With that in mind, here are four things you need BEFORE starting a business.

An Idea.

You cannot start a business without having some idea about what you want to do. For example, you may start with a single product idea before gradually increasing your product range. Once you’ve got this idea, you’re in a good place to move onto the next step in the process - but try to make sure it's as unique as possible. This way, you’re ensuring you’ll stand out from the crowd. If you’ve only got a vague idea of what you want to do, such as an idea of your ideal consumer, spend some time brainstorming ideas or avenues you’d like to explore. This research will eventually help you get where you need to be.

Starting a business can be quite intimidating, as it requires an upfront investment and a serious commitment. When trying to figure out what business to start, research is essential. There are lots of different options available that one could pursue; for example, starting a tax business could prove successful, especially if you have an affinity for numbers and filing taxes. When you start your own tax business, it offers the potential for consistent work over the course of several months out of the year, so it’s important to understand as much about income tax regulations as possible before jumping into it.

A Plan.

A good idea is not enough to rest an entire business upon, you also have to put together a business plan. After all, this will give you a framework to utilize moving forward by giving you a clear set of steps to follow as you work toward your goals.

In addition to including details such as your company name, mission, and target audience, your plan should also consider any challenges you may encounter along the way. This way, you know exactly what to do should you encounter them, meaning you can avoid rookie mistakes new business owners make. Your plan can also help you as you begin to scale up your business.

Funding.

Running your own business can quickly get expensive. In any given month, you’ll have to pay everything from materials to rental fees and employee salaries. As a result, while many consider this a worthy investment, it's important that you ensure you have the appropriate funding in place ahead of time. For example, draining your own bank account is not how to get funding for a startup - there are many other options available to you. For example, you can reach out to investors or crowdfund.

Determination.

Determination is an essential trait that every business owner must have. Without it, you will simply lack the edge and drive required to become successful in any industry. After all, without having sufficient determination to back yourself, you may find that you’re more likely to give up when facing challenges, as opposed to being focused on finding a solution. Determination is essential during your company's infancy, as this is when you will encounter the most roadblocks, but it's always good to have your eyes on the prize.

Common Birthing Worries You May Have

 caravan sonnet

Image Credit - CCO License

If you are due to give birth at some point in the near future, you are probably keen to make sure that it all goes to plan and there is nothing to worry about. However, you probably also will have worries - that’s just a natural part of the process, and something that you should try to be ready for as best as you can be. In this post, we are going to try and make this easier to deal with by looking at some of the most common birthing worries that you may have, and discussing what you can do about them. So let’s take a look at them now without further ado.

Bonding

A lot of mothers worry that bonding is going to be difficult - that it won’t happen naturally or easily, or that there might be something wrong in the relationship between the parent and baby. However, such fears do usually tend to be unwarranted, and it’s normally the case that bonding happens pretty naturally and easily without you really having to worry about it too much. However, if you are worried, just try and relax and remember that it’s the most natural thing in the world. It will happen, don’t worry.

Postpartum Depression

Otherwise known as the baby blues, this is a downturn in one’s emotional state that can sometimes be quite severe and require some serious intervention. At other times, it might just mean that you are a bit weepy for a while. In any case, the good news is that there are plenty of ways you can get help if this does affect you, so you shouldn’t worry too much about that side of things. There is always support to be found, and you’ll find that getting through this really is easy enough with the right people around you, and some time.

Birthing Injuries

Of course, birthing injuries do happen from time to time, and it’s perfectly natural to be worried about them, but fortunately they are not as common as people often assume. There are some that you might want to be aware of in particular, such as hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, or HIE, which can sometimes result from a physician’s actions. If that does happen, you can read more about HIE lawsuits here, but bear in mind that the chances are this will not happen to your baby in the first place.

Pain

Finally, there is the issue of pain in giving birth. You may be worried that you won’t be able to get there in time for the epidural, for instance, but again this is more of a rarity than you might think. The truth is that managing the pain is easier than ever, as long as you are in a hospital setting, so that is something you might want to keep in mind if you are finding yourself worrying about this issue.

Those are some of the main worries you might have. Make sure you get the support you need in time for the birth.

6 tips for planning the perfect cruise

caravan sonnet
Hello friends! Happy Tuesday! Today I am so excited to talk about some tips on planning the perfect cruise for your next adventure!

One of the questions I get asked about the most on a weekly basis is; "How you do you plan your cruises?". It is a great question that I know I spent a ton of time looking up and figuring out when I went on my first cruise back in 2014! Since that time nine years ago (how is that possible?? *smiles*) I have been so blessed to go on many additional ocean cruises and even a river cruise on the Rhine River (which was incredible!).

I share that to say that along the way there has been lots of different learning curves and so I hope that these 6 tips and ideas will give you some starting points to help you plan a fun-filled and memorable vacation!
caravan sonnet1. Decide Where You Want to Go.
This first tips is the most fun and yet can be the hardest decision to make. Our world is so beautiful and there are so many different amazing cruising options. You can chose to see so many amazing places without even leaving North America! And then when you consider European, Asian, African, and throw in river cruising the options can be overwhelming!

One of the first things to consider is your all-time dream places to visit. Cruising can be an affordable way to be able to see some of your dream destinations at a lower cost so consider where you have always wanted to travel. Also think about the weather- are you hoping to go to a Caribbean or warm-weather destination or are you looking for adventure and cooler-weather in Alaska? Do you want to see the Mediterranean or would you like to see the fall leaves in their glory on a New England/Canada cruise? Do you want to be out on the ocean or would you rather be on a smaller ship for a river cruise? Consider all of these things as you dream about where you want to go.

Some additional posts to help you with your decision making in this step:

caravan sonnet2. Choose Your Cruise Line
Every single cruise line has different pros and cons to it. Some are incredibly cheap but not the most detailed due to limited (and sometimes overworked staff). Some are extremely expensive and only travel to certain ports. Some cruise lines have lots of guests and others limit the number. Some cruise lines offer certain package deals while others don't.

You will want to really think through where you want to spend your money and what is the most important things to you. Since I also write and share for those cruising with a chronic illness, some very important things to me are the price, the cleanliness of the cruise line, the reputation of the cruise line (i.e. I don't want to get on a ship that has had a ton of different "health issues"), the allergy-food "friendliness", etc. Think through what is important to you and what you are willing to compromise if money is a factor.
caravan sonnet3. Choose Your Ship
Every single cruise line has so many different ships that each come with different opportunities (i.e. restaurants, entertainment, on board amenities, etc.) and offers. Make sure to really research not only where you want to go but the different ships that are offered with the cruise line you are taking so you will be aware of the things you will have access to while on board (or if weather prevents you from docking at a port).

caravan sonnet4. Plan How Long You Want to Go
Cruising is wonderful in that it offers short and long cruises to some of the most beautiful destinations. If you are short on time you can still take a 2-3 night cruise. You may think that it is not long enough to get away or relax, but honestly, every single 3 night cruise I have taken has been lovely. Sometimes all you need is a few days away to get refreshed and inspired.
caravan sonnet5. Choosing Shore Excursions
Once you have picked where you want to go and how long you want to cruise for the next exciting thing that you get to choose is what shore excursions you will want to do. I have done a variety of different types of shore excursions. I personally think that it is fun to pick a shore excursion and then still have time to explore the port city that you are stopped in. You can read about all of my cruising shore excursions HERE on my travel adventure page, but listed below are just a few of my absolute favorites:

Viking Cruise Line:
// The Cologne Cathedral (Exterior) //
// A Brief History of Old Town Colmar //
// Saint Martin's Collegiate Church (Place de la Cathedrale)//
// A Brief History of Beautiful Strasbourg //
//A Walk through Historic Strasbourg
//Place Saint Thomas //
// Strasbourg Cathedral (Cathedrale Notre Dame of Strasbourg) //
//Heidelberg Castle //

Disney Cruise Line:
// Atlantis & Aquaventure //

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line:
//  Seahorse Sailing & Snorkeling //
// Reef Snorkeling & Sandbar Getaway //

Carnival Cruise Line:
//  Kennebunkport, Maine //
//St. Martin, Bay of Fundy //

Some cruise lines (like Viking) include shore excursions in their price tag while others require you pay for individual experiences and adventures. Probably the most expensive port adventure that I saved for about a year was the Atlantis and Aquaventure my sister and I did in the Bahamas back in 2016. Do we regret it? Not at all. We both have said that we probably could never afford to do it again, but it was definitely a once-in-a-lifetime memory! Sometimes the best excursions have been the cheapest and sometimes you splurge on one that you will never forget so do your research of what you want to see the most and don't forget that you can see so much by just walking around the ports you are docked at too (especially on a river cruise!)

Why Learning Online Is Great

 Over the last few years, it has become more common for children to learn online; it has become more common for adults too! The landscape of learning was drastically changed in the last few years, and while there were some challenges, children adapted quickly to using technology to learn.

It has always been a concern for parents and guardians that children are spending too much time on their technology phones, ipads and computers - but there are a lot of benefits to be had too.

So why is online learning great for everyone?

Metrics

If you have ever worried that you aren’t learning, online courses track your progress and deliver it in easy-to-read metrics. You’ll see your strong point, your weak points and everything in between. It gives you the opportunity to make the most of your study time in a way that works for you.

Independent learning

Online learning is often guided, but there are so many different options for what you learn and how. You can explore new topics and deep dive into what really interests you. Learning with independence is a skill that is invaluable, and once the skill is learned and improved, it will be used for years across many different places - including the workplace.

Variety

If you have an interest in marine biology, musical lessons, Chinese philosophy or English, you can find a course for that online. The variety that online learning offers is something that can be mind-boggling; you can even get short courses from top universities like Harvard.

It is also possible to find the right learning method for you; it might be you prefer to read, or you might learn better when working with your hands or videos. Get more info videos are great for introductions to subjects.

Tech skills

When you are learning online, you will do a lot of things to support that learning. Research online, creating and editing files, shortcuts on keyboards to make the workflow smoother, time management and more.

You might be surprised how many skills you’ll use with your online learning.

Time-saving

No matter how much or little time you have, even time spent in aeroplanes can be used to your benefit when it comes to online learning. It is fast and efficient and can fit around all of the things you need or want to do.

Cost

Learning can come at a premium; luckily, there are so many different ways that you can access courses online for free. Although sometimes you’ll need to pay for certification at the end or for follow-up courses, most often, the initial intro or even the whole course can be free.

Learning online opens up a whole world of subjects, and you can choose anything that interests you. It’s fast, efficient, and perfect for those who like to travel and expand their mind in more ways than one.

Many of us put off earning something new because of confidence, but online learning is something you can do for you: Is It Time To Do Something For Yourself? | Caravan Sonnet.
