Happy Monday friends! If you are in the curriculum creation arena than you know that this past week has brought some news that was unexpected.
On October 1st, Teachers Pay Teachers announced a significant change to its seller program. Beginning January 1, 2027, the current Premium Seller membership (that Caravan Sonnet Classroom is part of) will no longer exist and will be replaced by a new Exclusive Seller membership. Under this model, sellers who choose the Exclusive membership will agree to sell their eligible digital educational resources exclusively through TPT and will unfortunately will receive a lower percentage (2.5%) of earnings. Currently Premium Sellers earn 80% of earnings and under the new model (with the legal ramifications of selling exclusively on TPT) the earnings will only be 77.5%. Sellers who wish to continue offering their digital educational resources through their own websites or other marketplaces may instead remain Basic Sellers on TPT, but at a substantially lower payout rate (only receiving 55% of earnings) and will not be able to participate in all of the functions that TPT offers.
This is an important change for many teacher-authors and small educational businesses, particularly those who have spent years building both a TPT presence and independent platforms, and it is one that I am taking time to thoughtfully consider what is best for Caravan Sonnet Classroom. For me this is not about the money but about what is best in regards to the "exclusive" legal conditions that will now be implemented.
I am incredibly grateful for Teachers Pay Teachers and for the opportunities the platform has provided to connect with educators and classrooms around the country and around the world. Even more, I am deeply grateful for each of you who has purchased, downloaded, shared, and used Caravan Sonnet Classroom resources with your students.
One thing I do want to make very clear: Caravan Sonnet Classroom will be remaining on Teachers Pay Teachers. I am incredibly grateful for the community, opportunities, and friendships and connections that TPT has provided, and I look forward to continuing to serve educators through the platform. What I am prayerfully considering over the coming months is not whether Caravan Sonnet Classroom will remain on TPT, but at what seller level I will move forward under the new structure. There are important factors to thoughtfully consider with each option, and I want to take the time available to make the decision that best supports the long-term future of Caravan Sonnet Classroom and the educators we serve.
For now, nothing is changing. Please continue to support the Caravan Sonnet Classroom TPT store as usual. My resources remain available there, and I am continuing to create and develop new materials for high school and college classrooms. My desire to serve students and teachers has not waivered or changed but only grown more determined and excited for the future.
Behind the scenes, I will be prayerfully considering what the next chapter looks like and how Caravan Sonnet Classroom can best serve educators for the long term. I will keep you updated as those plans develop over the upcoming months.
