9 must have experiences aboard the viking delling / my viking story / rhone river cruise
September 9, 2025
Happy Tuesday friends! I hope you are having a wonderful week so far! Today I wanted to share 9 Must Have Experiences aboard the Viking Delling that you have to do on your Rhône River Cruise with Viking Cruise Line! There are obviously so many more things I could add to this, but these are my top 9 recommendations!
I also created a reel about this so if you would like to see the reel simply click HERE!
Here are my top 9 recommendations:
1. Eat in the Aquavit Terrace Once.
The beauty surrounding you is incredible and it truly is a memorable experience that you don’t want to miss!
2. Attend Evening Port Talks with Nuno, the Program Director.
While you have the option to view these in your room, the experience of joining with fellow passengers and connecting more is a truly special time. Nuno did an amazing job of providing information we would need about the port we would be at the following day, helpful tips for our excursions and also gave a cultural component related to where we were at and shared an art piece each night. His engaging personality drew everyone in and I highly recommend attending these!
3. Learn about the locks.
On this cruise you will go through 13 different locks and to be honest, I didn’t know that much about them before this cruise. After learning about it I honestly have to say that I was impressed and it was fascinating to understand this part of River Cruising.
4. Get to Know Your Fellow Guests.
5. Attend the Taste of Provenance Dinner.
This was a special night and truly the crew did an amazing job of putting on such a special evening dinner menu. I heard several people say they weren’t going to attend and I felt sad that they missed out on such an amazing event. Do not miss this!
Want to hear all about my food and dining review on the Delling including a special part about the Taste of Provenance Dinner? Watch this reel by clicking HERE!
6. Participate in the Evening Music/Events.
Each night there were different things happening in the lounge and each was unique. One very fun night was the Music trivia night and Nuno did a great job of getting everyone involved- and there was just a lot of laughter and opportunity to get to know other guests!
7. Get to Know the Delling Crew.
If you have been around Caravan Sonnet for the past 13 years then you are well aware that I have done multiple cruises. The Delling crew is unparalleled to anything I have seen. The leadership of Captain Francois and Hotel Manager Daniel is a combination that is unique and provides a truly exceptional experience for not only the crew but the guests. Simply put the crew is amazing and getting to know the incredible people will make your trip all that more special.
8. Visit the Wheelhouse.
On the 5th day of the cruise Captain Francois and First Officer Francisco open up the wheelhouse for a couple of hours where guests can go and visit, ask questions, and learn more about the Delling and the Rhône River. This was truly an amazing experience and I can’t recommend this enough!
If you want to hear more about the incredible leadership on the Delling and how this makes this trip so wonderful, watch this reel by clicking HERE!
9. Visit the Sun Deck for an Evening Sunset.
This was one of my favorite things that I did…. If it wasn’t dinner time where I felt rude leaving my mom and the guests at the table I probably would have sat up there for hours. Now I am not suggesting leaving… haha well I guess I am but it is worth it friends. Trust me. You will love it.
If you want to hear see more of my love of the sunsets aboard the Delling, watch this reel by clicking HERE!

Happy Tuesday friends! I am so excited to share about a new reel that I have created all about the incredible crew of the Viking Delling!
Since returning from our trip, I am often asked if I enjoyed our Rhône River cruise, France and its beauty. Emphatically I answer yes, a thousand times yes, and what made the trip even more incredible was a crew that went out of their way to serve guests in a way that is incomparable to anything I had seen before in 12+ years of travel blogging. Most of the crew didn’t even know I was a blogger and the beautiful thing was they accomplished something in minutes that many brands, groups, and organizations strive to master. Respect at the foundation and a care that incomparable to anything. I know that this video couldn’t include everyone, but please know each person was seen. Your work touched our hearts deeply. To the entire crew of the #vikingdelling thank you from thousands of guests that never get a chance to say thank you. Your kindness, care, and work do not go unnoticed and you have changed the lives of people in ways you will never know. Thank you for inviting us into a sacred space… the Delling.

Happy Tuesday friends! I am so excited to share about a new reel that I have created all about money questions for a Viking River Cruise! Some of the most asked questions that I receive about our amazing Rhône River Cruise with Viking all have to do with money. I completely understand. We are living in a very difficult financial time and where and what you spend your money on is extremely important!
I wanted to create a reel all about answering the most asked questions that I receive! Some of the questions that I have answered include:
* What is the cost compared to other Rhône River Cruises?
*Is the cost of Viking worth it?
*Are excursions included?
*What is the cost of additional excursions?
*Are transfers included?
*How to save money on a Viking River Cruise
*How much spending money to bring?
And MORE!

I posted a reel on our sixth excursion on our Rhone River Cruise- a panoramic tour of Lyon, France! You can watch, comment, and like it HERE!
Our sixth excursion on our Rhône River Cruise with @vikingcruises was a panoramic tour of Lyon. We started with a drive to the Basilica of Notre Dame, at the top of Fourviere Hill, where we saw sweeping views of the city below. We then spent time inside the church before driving through the town. After this we did a walking tour along the cobblestone streets of Vieux Lyon and went inside some hidden passageways that had been created for busy merchants during the Medieval days.

I posted a reel on our fifth excursion on our Rhone River Cruise- an evening walk in Vienne, France! You can watch, comment, and like it HERE!
Our fifth excursion on our Rhône River Cruise with @vikingcruises was an evening walk in Vienne, France. One of the famous attractions is the Temple d’Auguste et de Livie. It is believed that this beautiful ruin in the center of town inspired Thomas Jefferson so much that he insisted on visiting in 1787 when he was America’s minister to France. Vienne still holds a plaque in honor of Jefferson in town This and so many other places were beautiful to see on this tour and having this walking tour in the evening added a depth that made it truly unique.

I posted a reel on our fourth excursion on our Rhone River Cruise- a steam engine tour in Tournon, France! You can watch, comment, and like it HERE!
Our fourth excursion on our Rhône River Cruise with Viking River Cruises was a steam engine ride in Tournon, France. After a short bus ride to the train station we boarded the Train Dee Gorges, a meter-gauge steam train. The region that we saw is inaccessible by road and it was a beautiful experience seeing the Doux River and fresh beauty.

I posted a reel on the beautiful sunsets on the Viking Delling from our Rhone River Cruise! You can watch, comment, and like it HERE!
One of the most beautiful experiences with Viking Cruises aboard the Viking Delling was seeing the incredible sunsets from the Sun Deck. I often slipped out of dinner each evening for a few minutes to just revel in the beauty. If you are taking a Rhône River cruise you will fall in love with the entire area, and the sunsets are truly spectacular.

I posted a reel on our third excursion on our Rhone River Cruise- a walking tour of Viviers, France! You can watch, comment, and like it HERE!
Our third excursion on our Rhône River Cruise with @vikingcruises was a walking tour of Viviers, France. It is impossible for me to pick a favorite stop along our Rhône River Cruise, but I was truly enamored with Viviers.... the architecture, the beauty, the cobblestone streets, the people we met, and yes, of course, the beautiful flowers. *smiles* I took over a thousand pictures in Viviers even though our tour was less than three hours (haha) and it was a lovely morning exploring and learning more about this charming French village. Our tour guide was once again truly amazing and at one point I had a few moments to talk with her alone. As she and I talked she told me that there was a library position open going through first edition books... I told her that if I was fluent in french I would apply immediately. She smiled at me and said, “that is the wonderful thing about life Rebecca- you can always learn new things and have new adventures”... and I think I grew more enamored with Viviers on the spot.
It is also truly amazing how small the world is and how connected people are. At dinner the night before our stop in Viviers, I discovered that a man on the cruise taught at my college alma mater. While he wasn't a professor during my time, we instantly clicked and one of the things that we found out was a shared love of photography and boats. Mom and I enjoyed spending time with him and his lovely wife throughout the cruise. On this tour he and I and two others were truly enamored with all of the beautiful places there were to take photographs. If you love photography and are going on this cruise, all of the stops are amazing, but Viviers will truly be a highlight. The four of us laughed as our tour guide encouraged us to enjoy the moments, gave us directions on where to go next (while still being able to hear her tour) and allowed us to try to capture the beauty. The four of us so enjoyed capturing the different places we were seeing and a few minutes into our little photography adventure we all started "rotating photography positions" and pointing out things not to miss. It was absolutely delightful and at one point "the professor" started humming "for the longest time". The four of us started laughing and singing Billy Joel as we snapped pictures and before we knew it a few others joined in. The people you meet and the experiences you have truly do stick with you forever... so in honor of the professor...this song for Viviers seemed especially fitting.

Happy Saturday friends! I hope that you are having a wonderful weekend! Today I am so excited to share my Viking Delling ship review reel which you watch, like, comment and can find HERE.
Delling- or "the Bringer of the Dawn" is one of Viking River Cruises famous long ships, is 443 feet long, was built in 2014, holds a crew of 53 and 190 guests on board. It includes four levels, 95 outside staterooms (25 Standard Staterooms, 22 French Balcony Staterooms, 39 Veranda Staterooms, 7 Veranda Suites, and 2 Explorer Suites).
I hope you love the reel and let me know if you have any questions!
stateroom 337 on the viking delling ship review / my viking story / viking rhone river cruise
June 18, 2025
I posted a reel all about our Stateroom (Room 337) on the Viking Delling while on our Rhone River Cruise! You can watch, comment, and like it HERE!
Our Veranda stateroom (room 337) for our Rhône River Cruise on the Viking Delling was absolutely wonderful. Our stewardess Kamilla was so sweet and absolutely the best! I HIGHLY recommend the Veranda- we spent a lot of time out there in the day and at night I slipped out many times to just sit and marvel at the stars. My sweet mama has given me permission to share this story, but my mom has a tendon tear in her left leg that is inoperable so she relies solely on her right leg for walking (although after years of Physical Therapy and hard work behind the scenes she walks normally and no one knows this). But as some of you also know the day before our cruise she hurt her right knee and unfortunately struggled to walk and suffered a lot of pain so she was unable to participate in all of the tours and do as much exploring as we planned to. The Veranda became a favorite place for her to be outside and enjoy our surroundings so it was truly a gift in so many ways! We will always have a soft spot for Room 337 on the Delling!!

I posted a reel on our second excursion on our Rhone River Cruise- a walking tour of Avignon, France! You can watch, comment, and like it HERE!
Our tour lasted for approximately 3 hours and it was a lovely morning exploring and learning more about this charming French city. Going from Arles to Avignon was absolutely lovely. Our tour guide was absolutely wonderful (you can see a reel of him singing a few reels back) and it truly was an incredible tour! I was so swept up in the culture and history with this beautiful place that I went back in the afternoon to explore more.

Happy Monday friends! Today I wanted to share with y'all 13 Things that I hated on my Rhone River Cruise. Y'all these are very serious. *smiles* I even made an entire instagram reel all about them. (You can watch, like, and comment on it HERE!)
So here they are...
1. The Red Carpet Welcome on Embarkation Day and at Every Port
The Viking Delling Crew are experts in treating every guest like royalty and create such an oasis of a haven in a busy and stressful world that you will now look for this everywhere after your cruise.
2. The Views as the Delling Glided Past Riverside Villages
The views of the different towns and villages along the cruise will have you dreaming of new places to visit and see in this beautiful area of France
3. The Fact that Our Stateroom had a Veranda
This was absolute luxury in every single sense of the way. I can not recommend this enough for this cruise.
4. The Morning Sunrises as We Sailed Along
Seeing the morning sunrises as we sailed along was the absolute perfect way to start each day. I now literally dream of mornings on the Rhone River.
5. The Shore Excursions that were far too Immersive.
The history, the culture, the architecture, all of it was absolutely inspiring in so many different ways.
6. The Beautiful Doors in Viviers, France
The doors in Viviers, France as we walked along were completely dreamy. As I gently strolled back to the ship after our tour, one of the doors was cracked open and the owner was standing nearby. I asked if I could take some pictures of the door and the owner ended up inviting me to go behind the door and walk this beautiful pathway to a beautiful garden. It was absolutely lovely, and now I dream of doors that hide beautiful gardens everywhere.
7. The Gourmet Meals Everyday Beside Large Picture Windows
The views as we ate each meal were absolutely stunning. Whether we were sailing or docked in a port, they were absolutely incredible.
8. Seeing the Viking Delling From Afar
On this cruise there were several ports where you can see the Viking Delling from Afar as you are walking back from a tour (like in Arles), or across the river while docked in Lyon. Seeing this beautiful place we called home for 7 days from afar was a constant reminder that the trip was short.
9. The Cobblestone Streets
Y'all know my little love of cobblestone streets, and on this cruise there were ample opportunities to walk them which was absolutely incredible.
10. The Adorable Postes in Perouges, France
I am not sure I need to even explain this one because y'all know I love letters and messages. Aren't these boxes absolutely adorable? If I thought that the red and blue of the Canadian Postes in St. Andrews By the Sea (Canada) years ago were delightful, this picture perfect color immediately grabbed my eye.
11. Music Trivia on Board the Viking Delling
I have attended a lot of music trivia nights on different cruises (and obviously off the cruises also) but this one was so much fun!
12. The Evening Views of Lyon
The views were absolutely incredible and so delightful. I wanted to get off and go walk around this beautiful city at night.
13. Absolutely Everything
Since our Rhône River Cruise on the Viking Delling in April I have been asked numerous times if there was anything that I didn’t like about the cruise and the absolute honest answer is no. The only thing wrong was absolutely everything because it was perfect and we loved every second of it. Thank you Viking Cruises and the crew of the Viking Delling for making it truly impossible to find anything that we hated or disliked at all. It was incredible.
Happy Monday friends! Let me know if you have any questions friends!
