Happy Tuesday, friends! I hope this week is meeting you gently. Mom is recovering slowly and well and I am still recovering from the flu- we so appreciate your continued thougths and prayers!

Today I wanted to share a bit about a place that has quietly become a haven for us during the last year in our travels back and forth to New York City and in this very tender season: the Courtyard by Marriott Paramus in New Jersey. I want to say that this is in no way sponsored nor do I have any discount to write about this- I simply hope that this will be helpful for those traveling and looking for a property to stay at as we were.

As many of you know, mom and I have spent a significant amount of time traveling back and forth to the New York City area over the last 9 months. We started some intense physical therapy for mom with her knees this past summer and we were down in NYC at least once a week- sometimes twice. Then starting in November with the multiple appointments around mom's Breast Cancer diagnosis that would come over Christmas and her surgery and recovery. During moments like these, where exhaustion and uncertainty sit right alongside gratitude and hope, where you stay truly matters. You need a place that feels safe, calm, and welcoming — not just functional.

To say that we were exhausted with this intense travel would be a bit of an understatment. With my work schedule we would often leave after work or very early in the morning and then travel back again in the same fashion so finding a place where we could sort of regroup became very important!

The Courtyard by Marriott Paramus has been exactly that for us.

From the very first stay, the front desk staff have been consistently kind, attentive, and genuinely warm. This isn’t surface-level hospitality — it’s the kind that feels human. One morning, after receiving particularly good news about mom’s biopsy and recovery, the front desk staff actually rejoiced with us. In the middle of a hotel lobby. That moment meant more than I can put into words. When you’re far from home and walking through medical uncertainty, that kind of shared joy matters deeply.

The rooms themselves are clean, well cared for, and thoughtfully maintained — something I don’t take lightly when health and recovery are involved. Everything felt fresh, orderly, and peaceful. Even more than that, the hotel is remarkably quiet. After long hospital days, appointments, and emotional conversations, returning to a calm and restful space made all the difference for both of us.

Another thing worth noting is how genuinely welcoming this property feels. It doesn’t feel rushed or transactional. The staff take the time to ask how you are doing, remember faces, and make sure you feel comfortable. There is a steadiness here — a sense that you’re not just passing through, even if you are.

Affordability is also a significant factor, especially during extended stays tied to medical care. Compared to staying directly in the city, the Courtyard by Marriott Paramus offers a much more manageable price point while still keeping you close enough for appointments and necessities. For families navigating medical travel, finances matter — and this hotel strikes a thoughtful balance between comfort and cost.

That said, in the spirit of honesty, there are two small things worth mentioning. First, the turn into the hotel off Route 17 can be a bit tricky, especially during heavier traffic. If you’re not familiar with the area, just take it slow and give yourself a little extra time. Second, the hotel has recently added a $10 parking fee, which is something to be aware of when budgeting your stay.

Even with those minor notes, the Courtyard by Marriott Paramus has been a place of rest, kindness, and quiet support during a challenging chapter of our lives. For anyone traveling to the northern New Jersey or NYC area — especially those navigating medical care — this property is well worth considering.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to share more.
