Along the Matanuska River on Alaska 1- South // Alaska

October 4, 2018

Happy Thursday friends! Today I am so excited to share more about our drive on Alaska 1-South that we took from the Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge to the Kenai Peninsula. After stopping for a bit of an adventure at the lake surrounded by the gorgeous mountains near Chickaloon, we continued to make our way south. For most of the time that we drove on Alaska 1 you could see the Matanuska River that winds and weaves around this area. It was beautiful and the blue colors that it held I feel the camera doesn't come close to doing it justice of how pretty it was!
Approximately 20 minutes after we stopped near chickaloon I stopped again. For those of you trying to plan a similar road trip this would be approximately about 40 minutes before reaching Palmer. We crossed a low (and very short bridge) and the river was so close that I told Ali that I was stopping again! I wanted to attempt to capture the beauty of this beautiful river we had been seeing most of the day. I pulled off on the side of the road and while Ali decided to stay in the car, I quickly hiked through a little field and woods to get to the river.

If I haven't said this already...if you love natural beauty of the outdoors be prepared to stop... A LOT. *smiles* While it's impossible to capture all of the beauty (or even share all of the thousands of pictures I took on this trip here on the blog)...you just want to "get into nature" while you are in Alaska. Almost like you know that you are in this beautiful wild and free place that is so unbelievable that just riding in the car just doesn't cut it. *smiles*
I finally made my way through the trees and came out at this section of the river. The water was rushing and up stream there were some people fishing and it looked like they had camped along the river. The whole setting was beautiful.
I walked along the river and rocks for a little bit before sitting down and just appreciating the beauty, the sounds of the rushing water, and the views from this area. It was a beautiful place to spend some time and even if you only have a little bit of time like I did, it is definitely worth a stop (you won't be able to miss this area). The water was so loud and yet the blue tones were simply gorgeous and made you catch your breath. I know you have heard me say this so many times throughout these posts, but you will not regret spending time in this spot on your Alaskan Road Trip!
Thank you so much for stopping by and reading this post today!
