4 Healthy Habits To Boost Your Wellbeing

December 16, 2019

Pexels

We all want to feel our best, but sometimes it’s difficult to keep up the perfect regime. When you’re busy, it’s easy to let your self-care slide a little. It’s usually unintentionally, and we don’t notice at first. Over time, if we don’t make little efforts to improve our wellbeing, we can become unhealthy, unmotivated, or run-down. Luckily, it only takes a few simple solutions to get back into good habits.

1 . Perfect your morning routine

The way that you start the day can really impact how that day unfolds and how you feel both physically and mentally. When you get up with no time to spare, you’ll end up feeling rushed and ill-prepared. Instead of hitting that snooze button a thousand times and then rushing, try getting up a tad earlier. Give yourself enough time to have a longer shower, a healthy breakfast, and some time to chill and drink something energising. Try a calming activity like practicing some yoga to the sunrise? Perhaps give yourself time to walk the scenic route to work? Save fifteen minutes to write down a few reflections or goals. Learn to enjoy and not dread the early morning (if possible)!

2. Give something back

Acts of altruism can leave us feeling great while also allowing us to appreciate the good things in our lives. Perhaps 2020 could be the year for a little charity work? Maybe there’s a cause that’s always meant something to you- but you haven’t got around to getting involved? There might be a cause that’s close to home in your local community? If you don’t have much time to spare, that’s okay. Even a small amount of time or donation could really make a difference. Extend your acts of kindness to your loved ones too- think surprise gifts or help with the kids when a friend is struggling.

3. Ditch the bad habits
The quickest way to boost your health its to ditch your bad habits! Perhaps you’ve struggled to give up smoking? Well a brand new year is the perfect time to try again. Addictive habits will take much trial and error to give up, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t get it right the first time. If you’re not a smoker but you like a drink, why not give dry January a try? Sometimes alcohol overindulgence can really escalate and become a real problem before you know it. If you know anyone who is struggling, a partial hospitalization rehab program could be a good call.

4. Eat more raw foods
Eating raw fruits and vegetables has long been praised for benefiting our health. Many believe that raw vegetables are more nutritious than those that have been cooked. This is based on the idea that raw vegetables retain more of their natural nutrients and enzymes. Of course, it’s not to say that you should never do some good old fashioned cooking again! Yet, increasing your raw fruit and vegetable intake could really boost your health.

Tips to Help Live A Long And Healthy Life

We’d all like to live a long and healthy life, but what we do in life can either help contribute to that longevity, or it can hinder it. Knowing what enables a loss in health is important. Here are some tips to help live a long and healthy life.

Stop Bad Habits
Bad habits are never going to be beneficial to your health and lifestyle, so the sooner you can remove them from your life, the better. Think about what bad habits you have now, whether that’s drinking, smoking drugs, or eating food that is causing you to gain excessive amounts of weight. There’s always an opportunity to get help, and so if you need it, make sure you check out a drug and alcohol rehab center if that’s what you need. Bad habits can take a little time to be rid of, so don’t beat yourself up if you end up falling off the wagon once or twice. It happens, and we’re only human at the end of the day.

Catch Up On Sleep
Sleep is essential to feeling healthier and to make your life last longer because it can help repair your body and get you back to that fighting fit place that you need to be at. Try to keep an eye on how much you’re getting currently and where you can make the changes to ensure you’re getting more of it throughout the week. A good seven to nine hours of sleep is the norm, and if you’re not getting anywhere near that, then you’re actually doing serious harm to your body. Don’t feel guilty if you feel tired and want to nap. That’s your body’s way of telling you that it’s tired, and it needs to rest. Only you know your body properly, so listen to it and don’t ignore those signs.

Reduce Your Stress Levels
Stress is a big contributor to your health and can come from various aspects of your life, whether that be the pressures of work and how much you have on your plate, to certain members of your family causing problems. The less stress you have, the more grounded and healthy you will feel in general. Try to work on bringing those stress levels down to a minimum and start focusing on what’s really important.

Tell Yourself That Age Is Just A Number
Age is merely a number, and so when it comes to your age, try to have that mindset of it being just another addition to your years on this earth. If you use age as a way to make you feel older than you’re going to feel that way naturally. You always feel your age but make that a thing you think less about and focus on feeling fit and healthy, rather than condemning yourself to an old body.
Living a long and healthy life is important to everyone, so use these tips to help give yourself the best opportunity to live a long one.

The Recovery After Back Surgery

December 15, 2019

Pain is an awful thing. Without invitation, it creeps into each and every aspect of your life. As a result of pain, your mood is affected, you’re short-tempered and cranky. Not the way it should be at all.

After a visit to your spine surgeon, the recovery can be a long, frustrating process. Here are a few tips to manage the healing process and get you back on your feet as soon as possible.

Pexels-CC0 Licence

1) Adapt to a New Normal
The reason you had surgery, to begin with, was to eliminate a problem with your back to bring you back to normal. There is no better feeling than being able to recover and live your life as it was before.

However, after surgery, there will be many restrictions on doing normal activities such as bending and lifting, meaning it will be tough to achieve that level of normal right away.
Use techniques and tools provided by the physician. While you recover, you’ll need to be kinder to yourself and allow the use of tools- some things can be done for yourself no problems, and others may need a little assistance.

Getting your life back and feeling the strength come back on a daily basis is enough of a healer to help you get back to your former ways.

2) Get Ahead of The Pain

Adapting to pain is part and parcel of the recovery process before you get back to being healthy. It doesn’t have to get you down as much as it might do, though. When medication is prescribed, you are told to take it at various intervals for a reason- to keep it working before it wears out.

When trying to get back to normal after surgery, try to keep ahead of the pain before it gets too bad.

3) Let others help you
During recovery, you’ll need a support network to help you to recover. This means having people around you to rely on when you need additional support.
You won’t be able to operate machinery for several weeks- so driving will be out of the question. With your medication, you may be drowsy, making it dangerous to work any machinery.

Have people there when you first get home to help with the everyday things you need. Even just having somebody there will give you the reassurance that will ease your anxiety. You’d do the same for a loved one, wouldn’t you?

4) Don’t Allow Recovery to Get You Down
There may be times that recovery will seem hard. After surgery, you will have hopes and expectations that you’ll be back to normal right away. In reality, this won’t happen, as we are all designed in a different way. So no one person’s healing is the same as another’s.

Be patient and kind to yourself during your time of recovery and recuperation, as you’ll need to be your best for when the time comes to your full recovery.

What tips do you have for post back surgery recovery?

How We Make Bad Things 'Normal'

December 13, 2019

You will find that many people do things in their lives, that are bad for them yet they don’t even realize it. Why does this happen? Psychologists and philosophers have been trying to figure this out for centuries. Why do we do things that harm us everyday? This could be things like psychologically brow beating ourselves into having low confidence and self-esteem issues. It could be substances we take to cope with stress or issues in our lives. It might even be things like losing control of our emotions which can cause us to lose friendships. Eventually these things become normal to us and we don’t even bat an eyelid to them. Here are just a few things that we tend to normalize when we should be actively combating them.

 Fewer and fewer sleeping hours
Yes, the world never seems to sleep anymore, but does that mean you have to follow suit? No, you don’t have to at all and by making simple lifestyle choices you can get enough sleep. Thankfully the world has moved into a non-stop working culture or rather, a no-time-limit working culture. Although the normal working day is 9 to 5, many people will work longer than that. Many people will come into work earlier than 9. This is because the global economy is so much more interlinked than it ever was. Thus, you can work effectively at any time of the day. But this also means you will be getting fewer and fewer sleeping hours which can seriously upset your health. You must make a choice, you’re only going to work during certain hours and no matter what, you won’t take your work home with you. It's not normal to go to sleep at 1am and wake up at 7am. Just 6 hours of sleep is not enough!

 Just a little more
Ever find yourself with a glass of wine or a pint of beer in the afternoon? Ask yourself how often do you drink and why? Most people say they drink to wind down from work and to help them sleep a bit better. Others say they only drink with food to enjoy their meals more. Some, however, say they drink alcohol because it makes them feel good. If you’re in this camp, chances are you’re using alcohol as a coping mechanism for something. This isn’t normal and any good alcohol addiction treatment center can help you find the reasons why you drink more than you should. It's not healthy to drink alcohol every single day, even if it's just one glass of wine. Eventually, it all adds and it will impact your liver and kidneys.

Thinking low of yourself
Both men and women will experience some kind of self-esteem issue at least once in their life. We often put ourselves down more than others ever do. This could be because you weren’t given a sense of encouragement when you were growing up? up. It might be because you’re shy and socially awkward. Whatever the reason is, you should speak with a psychologist to see if you can break this self-induced spell.

Not getting enough sleep seems to have become the norm. Even if you drink enough coffee to get you through the day, it's not healthy for your body to be running on fumes.

Not Young, But Not Beyond Helping Ourselves! The Health Concerns To Keep An Eye On In Our 30s

Pexels - CC0 Licence

Our 30s is the time when we start to think we should really be healthier, not just in our daily lives from her but in our mental health, and start to plan for the future in so many different ways. A lot of people, when they turn 30, realize that they don't have youth on their side. And while this is is very subjective, while being in your 30s can result in a lot of positive things happen to us we've got to be mindful about certain health issues that can start to creep up. Partly, being in our 30s is similar to our 20s but it at this point that we really have to start thinking about things that could cause major problems later in life. What are these?

Dental Problems
Perhaps you like a sweet treat or 12, and when you go for a check-up, they tell you to keep an eye on one little part of your teeth that could cause issues further down the line. One of the big issues we all have in our thirties is our wisdom teeth. They could lay dormant for years but can start to prove annoying and extremely painful. And you going wisdom teeth extraction can obviously help, but it's important to keep a close eye on your wisdom teeth. Even if they don't hurt now, they could very well in the future. And generally speaking, our teeth and oral health are crucial. We should start flossing, and we should minimize our sugar intake. Or at the very least, have a bottle of water with us so we can rinse away any potential for erosion caused by that can of coke or piece of chocolate.

Stress
We all know we need to minimize stress but it's in our 30s when we start to feel the pressures of life. We're supposed to be an adult, and with work stress, financial responsibility, as well as parental duties we can feel that we are forever going at 100 miles an hour. Stress, over time, causes problems with our immune system which increases our risk of infection, but can also cause cardiovascular disease or issues with our digestive system. Learning to manage stress is vital, and it is about having tools at this juncture. Partly it is to do with stopping and being aware of your triggers, but it's also about having those daily practices that can minimize spikes in cortisol.

Injury
Musculoskeletal problems and general degeneration of our joints can mean that we run the risk of spaying and ankle. The best approach is to be more mindful in your exercises. Focus on the form of the movement and do something slowly and mindfully. These days, with the focus on high-intensity interval training, and marathon running, it's never been easier for people to injure themselves. But if you focus on the form, and do things slowly, you were doing it correctly corner which means you will build strength in the right way.

While we're not young in the obvious sense, we're not beyond helping ourselves either. And the standing the biggest issues in our 30s and fixing these can mean we live a long and healthy life.
