Three Steps To Start Your Family Garden Design

May 2, 2023

If you want a great addition to your family home, you should look towards your garden space. Not only does it give you somewhere to relax it provides your children with somewhere to spend time in the outdoors.

It doesn’t need to be difficult to get the garden that you want and one that you can enjoy this summer. You just need to factor in the time and the costs that are associated with doing the work. For example, you may need sprinkler repair, skip hire, or a landscape gardener.

If you want to know where to start have a look at these tips below:

Start With The Foundations

Whenever you start a garden project you need to start with the foundations, especially when you are designing your family garden. It needs to be safe and secure. If you cover your garden with concrete slabs or paving stones, it could spell disaster for younger kids, especially as they are prone to trips and falls. They could even slip when the weather is wetter. You may find that your kids get put off playing outdoors for this reason, or you keep them in more because you are worried about them getting hurt. You should think about adding a grasses area where they can play and enjoy toys such as a slide or swing.

Have Dedicated Areas

When you know what your foundations are going to be, you need to start looking at the different areas of your garden. If you separate your garden into zones you are making it a much more functional space for your family to use. Start by looking at the play area and make sure you add in some equipment to keep them entertained. If you start with this area, they can then play outside while you look at the rest of the garden without you worrying that they are getting into things that they shouldn’t. You should then look at creating an alfresco dining zone and a place for relaxing. You may even want to look at adding a zone where you can grow some fruits and vegetables.

Planting Fruit And Vegetables

When you have a garden that you can enjoy it provides you with the perfect opportunity to grow your own fruit and veggies. You and your children will benefit from doing this. Not only will they have access to fresh fruit and vegetables but they will also learn about how ot grow and cook them. You may find that their interest grows when they are growing and picking them themselves so you have less trouble with them eating them at home. It doesn’t take long to start growing veggies, you just need to make sure you do some research before you start. Some veggies and fruit are easier to grow than others, so, it’s a good idea to start with easy before moving on.

If you are looking at getting your family garden sorted this year, now is the time to get started. Use the tips below to get you on your way to building the garden that you want. Do you have any garden plans for this year? It’d be great to hear them below.

When I was 13 years old, I wrote a letter to this woman because she had written some books that absolutely grabbed me, and I told her I dreamed of being a writer. To my shock, she wrote me back a handwritten note and, at the end, encouraged me to become that writer and love Jesus most of all.

Over the last 3 decades, I have treasured her books, her words of encouragement, her podcast, her blog posts, and the Hallmark Channel movies (made from her books).

When my precious daddy died, she wrote me the most tender encouragement and has shared countless times that she is praying for me.

Last Sunday, a dream came true as I not only got to meet her face to face but had the privilege of spending several hours with this Godly lady who spoke the most precious encouragement into my very tender heart. She took me to the most gorgeous spot in Newport Beach and as we sat overlooking stunning flowers, tall palm trees, boats softly sailing in and the ocean she gently and tenderly renamed a season that has felt so incredibly difficult and painful as "the gathering season".

As tears gently fell, I listened to the wisdom and knowledge of someone who has faithfully, courageously, and generously loved well. Her wisdom and words spoke wind into tiny embers of dreams that have felt lost and hopeless. Words of hope and faith among beauty were truly graced by the Lords presence, and it was holy.

Thank you for everything Robin, you are truly my hero, and yesterday was a day I will remember forever from our picnic to the beautiful spot, our laughter, heart sharing, the beautiful intentionality of the spot, but mostly for your kindness and gentle firm encouragement into things that seem impossible. What a gift yesterday was, and I can't wait till we get together again soon! You are a woman I am HONORED to call a kindred spirit.
