7 years later of your home going to Heaven today and I have tears of gratitude at the love, laughter, and faith that you bestowed so amazingly on me as a daughter.
13 years ago when these pictures were taken we were looking at prognosis after prognosis of no hope. But on this “walk” (if you could call it that because I was to sick and weak to walk and had to be basically carried by my dad) my precious daddy spoke words of truth and life and love over me as he had always done for my entire life. He believed the impossible (even when the “best doctors in the world” said differently) and believed in a future I was to sick to even comprehend… every single day I am grateful for the honor of being known as “Paul’s daughter”.
I miss you so so much daddy and can hear you cheering me on each and every day to love Jesus above anything else….

First, I want to apologize for the delayed response to so many kind messages and comments that I have received both online and personally. Your kindness has meant so much to me and to mom. It has been an incredibly busy time balancing work, a few details behind the scenes, and caregiving so I truly appreciate your understanding as I work to respond to all of the lovely and kind messages. Your encouragement has truly been the biggest blessing to both mom and I.
When I shared that we would be traveling down to NYC for the full pathology results on February 11th, we did not expect a few things that occurred. I admit that it took a bit of processing for us both, and am grateful for your patience with an update.
As background (and with mom's full permission to share), mom originally found a lump and immediately called her GYN. As I have shared, the GYN originally stated that it could be something or most likely it was just an infection and mom should wait. Out of "extreme caution" she ordered a ultrasound for nearly three weeks later (on December 31st), but when we requested a mammogram she said that the doctors office that was doing the ultrasound could order this. We also requested help to get the ultrasound sooner and she never responded.
It literally took us less than 12 hours after this appointment to determine that we would be going to Sloan Kettering for a "second opinion" and decided immediately it would be where we wanted to go. Within a matter of hours talking with Sloan Kettering we had an appointment scheduled for a mammogram and an ultrasound a few days later. They offered us one that day, but due to travel we couldn't get there for a couple of days. Mom had the ultrasound and we were told that day that their expert opinion was that the lump was cancerous but that they also had found an additional spot on the right side along with something on the left (which they believed was benign). A biopsy was scheduled for the following week.
The biopsy results came back before we even would have had our first appointment with the original GYN's referral, and this is something that I am highlighting heavily because mom and I are very passionate in encouraging everyone to advocate for themselves in health situations. This was a constant refrain during my own health journey, and this situation has highlighted this once again. It is still incredibly upsetting to think that a GYN would not be more concerned or even agree to schedule a mammogram and my heart breaks at all of the people that could possibly have gone through and waited when time is extremely important.
PLEASE advocate for yourself and for your health.
The pathology results came back from the biopsy and the original lump mom had felt was declared "definitely cancerous" and the other was considered "atypical". Mom had surgery on January 28th and we are thankful that the Cancer was fully removed with clean margins. What was a surprise to everyone was that on February 11th we learned that the full pathology report showed that the "atypical cells area" did not produce clean margins and mom would need additional surgery. She will also need raditation (which is a typical course of treatment for the type of Cancer mom has after surgery).
This definitely threw both of us because the area that the atypical cells encompass is quite larger- much larger than was thought and it took some time to just process this entire situation. It is truly overwhelming to know that we live in this day and age with such medical advancements that we can deal with "atypical cells" way before anything develops and occurs. I wish that I could just hug (with tears of gratitude) all of those who have worked to bring so much advancement to this research area and those that continue to work to bring new advancements every single day.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
The surgery was originally scheduled for yesterday, but due to an infection surgery has now had to be delayed a couple of times and will now take place on Thursday, March 19th.
We can't say enough about mom's medical team at Sloan Kettering. The surgeon and his team are fantastic and have been incredibly encouraging, patient, and just a constant support. They have helped me as the caregiver, patiently answering lots of questions and just supporting in so many different ways. There is so much hope that flows through those halls and we are grateful for every single person we have encountered.
People have kindly asked how they can continue to help and pray and here are a few specific ways that we ask for prayer:
1. We appreciate your prayers for complete healing and for a successful surgery.
2. We appreciate prayers for healing from this infection that mom has so that she can have surgery as soon as possible.
3. We appreciate prayers for me - as I balance two jobs plus caregiving and for a few behind the scenes items that I am handling. Please pray specifically for my health and energy.
4. We appreciate the prayers for provision for travel to and from surgery and for our stay in the city including parking, meals, and other items.
We so appreciate those who have again suggested doing a full fundraiser but at this time we have decided to just re-open the Meal Train as we felt like this is a gentle way to help receive practical support if you feel led. Most of all we are grateful for your prayers and love and kindness. You can find the link HERE!
THANK YOU for all of your support, love, and kindness during this difficult season!!
Happy Heavenly birthday to this precious woman, my "Ba" that I am still honored to call not only my precious grandmother, but one of my best friends. I miss her so very much and her love, wisdom, and faith that filled my life with so much hope and love.
At one point during my health journey I had just found out that one of the most well known medical hospitals in the world felt my case was to complicated & that there was no hope. My dear grandmother,, my "Ba" came into my room in the early hours of the morning the next day and sat on my bed and spent time praying with me and over me for hours. As she finished she got up and said, "Rebecca, I don't care how bleak it looks or the fact that they say there is no hope...God is a God of miracles & has not abandoned you." I wept and held on to her words for the hours, days, weeks, months, & years ahead.... and have held onto them these past 7 years throughout some of the darkest moments of my life in loosing her and my precious daddy and so many other things behind the scenes that have been soul wrenching.
I have reflected on lot of things that made her the woman that she was. This memory remains one of my most treasured memories...the wisdom of a woman who had walked with God for decades and a faith that is unwavering in the midst of circumstances that would go to the contrary....

Thank you so much for your prayers for mom and for your continued support through the Meal Train!!
First, I want to apologize for the delayed response to so many kind messages and comments that I have received both online and personally. Your kindness has meant so much to me and to mom. In full transparency last week was one of the most challenging of my life due to a situation behind the scenes, our heat going out at the house before we left for NYC, and then I came down with a terrible Flu and everything left me a bit battered I admit. My sole focus and limited energy was simply on mom this past week as I know y'all can understand.
Second, the meal train donations for helping to cover costs and meals have been more of a gift then I could ever express or say!!!! I literally have tears. THANK YOU to those who did give and continue to give as mom heals (and so do I) from these past weeks- especially this past week. You can find the link HERE!
Third, I am overwhelmed with gratitude that we are rejoicing that the surgeon was extremely pleased with the way that the surgery went, that everything went very well, and mom felt well enough that we arrived home late on Friday evening and she has been resting and recovering. She is healing well and the pain has been minimal which is a miracle and a true answer to prayer.
We have a follow up appointment on the 11th and we are expecting great reports at that time- thank you for your continued prayers for this and for complete healing for mom.
We are still accepting donations and help for this week and for the upcoming appointment so if you are interested you can click on the Meal Train link HERE. THANK YOU for all of your support during this difficult season!!
I wanted to take a brief moment to say thank you so much for all of your support and the donations that have come in so far for the Meal Train! Both mom and I are so humbled and so grateful for the support.
As we travel down to NYC later today, with pre-operative appointments tomorrow and surgery scheduled for Thursday, we are humbled and grateful for the help with meals and transportation/ stay costs.
If you would still like to help please feel free to click here Meal Train as we will be keeping this up throughout the next week. You can donate, sponsor a meal, or give a gift card by clicking HERE.
Most of all we are grateful for your prayers and love and kindness. Thank you so much.
Last month I shared that like many of you, our Christmas looked very different then we could have planned or imagined, including a trip to NYC for unexpected medical reasons.
Yesterday I shared a reel where I explain a bit more about this trip and why I have been a bit more quiet with our unexpected news- Please head on over to watch, comment, and like the reel HERE!
Thank you so much for all of your love and support and prayers. If you would like to support practically you can find our Meal Train for donations and gift cards HERE.
Thank you so much for all of your prayers for my mom this week as she has surgery on Thursday.
As some of you know mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer over the Christmas holidays and will have surgery on Thursday in NYC. We are humbled by your support and prayers and that we have been given a good prognosis and grateful that her care team is very optimistic.
People have kindly asked how they can help during her surgery and our stay in the city and her recovery over the next couple of weeks. Surgery is scheduled for January 29th and we will travel to the city before this. Meals and help with transportation/ stay costs would be very helpful.
We so appreciate those who suggested doing a full fundraiser but at this time Meal Train felt like a gentle way to help receive practical support if you feel led. You can donate, sponsor a meal, or give a gift card by clicking HERE.

Good morning and happy wednesday friends! I hope that your first full week of January is going well!
I know that many times social media can bring lots of criticism, but I have always been incredibly grateful for this amazing community. Over the years you have faithfully supported, prayed for and loved me (and my loved ones) deeply. Today I would like to once again ask for prayer, as we have some important appointments in New York City this morning. Please pray specifically for peace and for wisdom that will address the issue completely, and for total healing.
Words at times like this fail me, but your love & prayers are truly a blessing beyond any feeble words. Thank you dear friends. You are a blessing.

Thank you so much for your prayers for my mom's heart procedure tomorrow morning. It is scheduled at 6:30am (EST) - we will need to be at the hospital earlier than that. I know that we are not the only one who are approaching unknowns, surgeries & a whole host of other things this week. Things that we could never imagined that we would be facing today. I wanted to share with y'all my prayer for my mom's procedure tomorrow... I hope it will be an encouragement to those of you walking a similar path...
God, my God, you know my fearful & terrified heart & state as we approach today. I am gripped by anxiety over the procedure/surgery that my loved one has to undergo. We are very much frightened of the entire procedure. Lord, your word says that you will strengthen us on our bed of illness & you will sustain my mom on her sickbed. Yes Lord! We trust your word & turn to you for help. Human wisdom & skill are nothing before you. So please fill the doctors who attend to my mom with your divine wisdom Lord so that they can perform this surgery in a perfect manner.
Take all of those who assist them & everyone associated with the surgery in your hands & keep them as your instruments in bringing healing to her. The prayer of my heart & so many others has been for mom to be able to live without heart issues. Use this Lord to bring about healing. Use this Lord for your glory even though right now things seem dark & scary. May this situation reflect your love and goodness & showcase your love and power. Shine your light into the darkness Lord. We cling to your promises that you are always with me, wherever we go! You are already there Lord.
As she is wheeled into the room, feeling alone & scared- your presence will be there to meet & to guide. Lord, hold her hand tightly and grant her your peace. We totally & completely rest on you and thank you for always being with us & carrying her & rescuing her Lord. You are the God of miracles & we are trusting you for big miracles today.

it has been six years since our annual party in the woods...some gentle reflections on grief and traditions
September 12, 2024
It’s been 6 years since the “annual party in the woods” and grief has taught us some very tender lessons for this girl whose heart loves gatherings and parties like her daddy and Ba did… watch HERE for some gentle reflections for those in tender seasons.
Have you had special traditions change into new ones that became precious in new ways? I would love to hear your stories friends... (find all of my thoughts on this beautiful porch night gathering HERE)
16 years with this one who made me a fur mama and brought so much love, laughter, and light into my life went by to quickly… I miss you already buddy.
I never thought I would ever own a cat… but this one was different and really never even acted like a cat… came into my life after a serious relationship ended, moved with me on 5 cross country moves, made us laugh when we thought we could never laugh again, transformed the entire family into loving a kitten, curled up with me during deep days of pain, had adventures galore (even at a school) and spent almost a decade taking care of me when I was fighting for my health and life. Today was a most difficult day… lots of tears and lots of gratitude. An amazing family member…. We love you.
Thank you Scamper for everything.
