National Novel Writing Month and Partnering with the Mighty Pens to Raise Money for the Malala Fund

Happy November friends and Happy National Novel Writing Month to so many of my fellow authors and writer friends who are working so hard this month to complete the novel that you have dreamed of writing!
This month I am so excited to share about partnering with a group called the Mighty Pens to help raise money for the Malala Fund! Our goal is to harness the passion of writers during the National Novel Writing Month to raise money for girls' education around the world!
What is the Malala Fund? Well the Malala Fund raises money for girls education around the world. It was founded in 2013 and is dedicated to preserving every girls right to 12 years of "free, safe, quality education". It was named after Malala Yousafzai who in 2012 was shot by a Taliban gunman in the head, neck, and shoulder. Malala had been an advocate for girls' right to education and was shot for her beliefs and because she wanted to learn. In 2014 Malala became the youngest ever Nobel Laureate. She continues to advocate for girls education.
Isn't that amazing? Malala has long been one of my heroes and I am so excited to partner with the Mighty Pens to help raise money for her organization!
So today friends I have something to ask you! You know how many runners will run a sponsored race for charity? I am doing the exact same thing this month- except with words. So instead of asking you to sponsor a mile for a race, I am asking for you to consider sponsoring the words that I write to be sponsored. I am hoping that you would sponsor me as I attempt to write my word count goal of 25000 words in the month of November. And don't worry- it doesn't have to be much! You could sponsor a dollar for every thousand words I write or a dollar for every 10,000 words or a dollar for the whole thing! Really this is up to you!

As I was sitting in treatment yesterday, receiving necessary things for my body I was reminded how big of a struggle it is to pay for the necessary treatment procedures that my body needs. From IM shots to IVs to supplements and medication to a thousand other little things it can be extremely overwhelming. The financial aspect and burden when you are sick is a stress that I wish noone had to live with honestly. But the reality is that it is there. Every single day. Whether I want to think about it or not I am reminded everyday of the hundreds of little things that I need to purchase and spend money on in my fight to get well all the while worrying that it will never be enough. Through the kind generosity and help from others with my go fund me page, I receive help that is needed in order for me to get better.
And then I think about what it would be like to have my own child be sick and the heartbreak, the burden, and the passionate desire to do anything to get them well and not have the financial resources to do so.
And I think about the children who are suffering and desperately need help due to being sick but due to finances can't afford to get better.
And that is why I am so personally grateful to partner up with St. Jude to help those kiddos that are fighting desperately for their health and the parents who are longing to see their kiddos happy, healthy, and returning to "normal life".

If you aren't familiar with them, Operation Smile "is an international children's medical charity that heals children's smiles, forever changing their lives... [by offering] safe, effective reconstructive surgery and related medical care for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate. Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft. One in 10 of those children will die before their first birthday. The children who survive are often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some places, they are shunned and rejected. And in too many cases, their parents can't afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a productive life."
Y'all this touches my heart to the core. As someone who is dealing with several severe medical issues I know the importance and the miracle of having someone help you in a medical crisis and this is exactly what Operation Smile does. Through kind donations they are able to save people's lives one child at a time.
And THAT to me is one of the main reasons that I support Operation Smile's campus programs but also Campus Book Rentals!

In my first post I shared several reasons that I believe Campus Book Rentals is awesome and I still think every single one of these things is still wonderful!! My favorite though is their "rent back" program which is seriously wonderful! In this program you have the opportunity rent the textbooks that you own to other students like yourself. If you think about it you could potentially earn two to four times the amount you would earn if you just simply sold your books at the end of the semester or simply sold it once via an on-line venue. Research has also shown that Rent Back will provide you with more money than the campus buy back programs that currently exist on most college campuses! This is also a wonderful program for people like myself who are on-line students!
In addition to this wonderful new program, there is security in the fact that Campus Book Rentals has been around since 2007 so they have years of experience!
AND (here is my favorite part!!!)
Remember when I shared above about how much I love Operation Smile? Well guess what?!?! Campus Book Rentals donates a portion of the proceeds with each textbook rented to Operation Smile! This year they are committing to supporting 80 surgeries!! What a life changing thing y'all!! I love this!!
