I actually touched base with the St. John tourism board and was told that both ways of writing the city are used - even within the city - for example, Saint John City Market is written out but St. John's "stone" church is abbreviated. St. John's is a city in Newfoundland, Saint John is a city in New Brunswick. You have them mixed up. A common mistake for those that don't live here, but Saint John is spelled out in full and never abbreviated or contracted like St. John, or St. John's.
